Description of problem: Alienware m15x: Sound is not working after the installation of Fedora 11 Beta. Sound works correctly after the installation of the latest Ubuntu distributions. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): [wade@laptop /]$ rpm -q pulseaudio pulseaudio-0.9.15-10.fc11.x86_64 pulseaudio-0.9.15-11.fc11.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Fedora 11 Beta or below. (Fedora 8 works) 2. Play OGG file(s) or Flash based web video. 3. Actual results: Sound is not working. Expected results: Sound to "work out of the box" and not needing any tweaking. Additional info: I apologize for any information I don't include in the initial opening of this bugzilla. This is my first time tracking down a sound issue. [wade@laptop /]$ pavucontrol This shows all devices listed not muted. I have tried different sound options.
I can confirm above bug report. I have same results with same hardware: # lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02) # uname -r 2.6.29.1-111.fc11.x86_64 In F10 sound works perfectly.
Looks like I'm able to get sound if I do the following: In the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file, I added: options snd_hda_intel model=mbp3 Rebooted and sound worked. However, the argument is that sound _should_ be working out of the box / after installation.
Append file generated with 'alsa-info.sh --no-upload' command to this bug. Thanks.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 11 development cycle. Changing version to '11'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
I'm hitting the same problem with a fresh install of Fedora 11. I'm running a Dell Precision 490. By adding the info in /etc/modprobe.d/sound it works correctly. check the work around in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=502326
Appears the other BZ (502326) was fixed with the following: "Ok. Got sound to work again. I had to install. alsa-driver-1.0.20 wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.20.tar.bz2 tar jxvf alsa-driver-1.0.20.tar.bz2 cd alsa-driver-1.0.20 ./configure --with-cards=hda-intel make -j 2 make install" I have a vanilla install I will try this on first thing. Thank you Nicolas.
Still does not work in Fedora 12.
I can't get Pulseaudio to work at all since I've upgraded to Fedora 12. system-config-soundcard looks ok, and I can get sound using aplay, but pulseaudio (pavucontrol or paman) doesn't see any cards. I think I have to be missing something obvious, but nothing I've tried has helped at all. # cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0xfe3f4000 irq 22 # lsmod|grep snd snd_hda_codec_realtek 187176 1 snd_hda_intel 24688 0 snd_hda_codec 61272 2 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel snd_hwdep 6976 1 snd_hda_codec snd_seq 44472 0 snd_seq_device 6352 1 snd_seq snd_pcm 61092 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec snd_timer 17612 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd 48032 8 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 5672 1 snd snd_page_alloc 8136 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
This message is a reminder that Fedora 11 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 11. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '11'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 11's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 11 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 11 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-06-25. Fedora 11 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
