This was a second attempt with the same medium on the same machine; the first time it failed without any bugzilla, but with some complaint about the storage -- not mounting, I think. The machine has two modifications: 2 GB of memory instead of 1/2 GB; and an 8 GB SD (camera type) card. I had told the partitioner to use both the hard drive and the card. (F10, when I had that on it, used more than the whole hard drive.) Fwiw, I'm letting it try a third time, since the first two differed, and I'm guessing the second got farther than the first.
Third attempt had to be aborted. I had forgotten to mention that the installer fails to take account of the small screen on the EeePC; so, for most purposes, I can only keep hitting F12. I can't even see the lower right corner of any screen, much less use any buttons there. This time I tried the manual partitioner, made a mistake, and couldn't figure out how to go backward. I finally hat to hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and start over.
