Description of problem: I recently installed the latest round of kernel, pulseaudio, and alsa updates and since doing this there are huge latency issues with sounds in KDE. For instance in Amarok just to skip from one song to another can take up to a minute before the next song starts playing. Another thing I have noticed is that when I get an instant message in kopete I'll see the message and about 30 seconds later here the notification tone. In KDE I went into system settings and switched the backend to Xine and logged out and back in and all hesitation problems were gone. I'm not sure which one of the upgrades caused this issue but things have definitely changed for me. Here is my current package information with regards to the above mentioned components: phonon-backend-gstreamer-4.3.1-6.fc11.i586 phonon-backend-xine-4.3.1-6.fc11.i586 phonon-4.3.1-6.fc11.i586 kernel-2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i586 pulseaudio-libs-glib2-0.9.15-17.fc11.i586 pulseaudio-libs-zeroconf-0.9.15-17.fc11.i586 pulseaudio-0.9.15-17.fc11.i586 pulseaudio-module-x11-0.9.15-17.fc11.i586 pulseaudio-utils-0.9.15-17.fc11.i586 pulseaudio-libs-0.9.15-17.fc11.i586 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.20-2.fc11.i586 pulseaudio-module-gconf-0.9.15-17.fc11.i586 xine-lib-pulseaudio-1.1.16.3-2.fc11.i586 kde-settings-pulseaudio-4.2-12.noarch pulseaudio-module-bluetooth-0.9.15-17.fc11.i586 alsa-lib-1.0.21-3.fc11.i586 alsa-utils-1.0.21-2.fc11.i586 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.20-2.fc11.i586 alsa-lib-devel-1.0.21-3.fc11.i586 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Always. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install latest updates. 2.Enable Gstreamer backend in KDE and try a sound application. 3.Use Xine backend and try same application and notice no issues. Actual results: Expected results: Additional info: Using intel audio hardware in a Dell Latitude D830. http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_06634b69-132c-415b-9a03-8758543665b2

Are we even sure this is a KDE bug in the first place? It seems this got triggered by an update in the underlying packages (pulseaudio, alsa-* or kernel). That said, it's really strange that Phonon-GStreamer has the problem and Phonon-Xine doesn't, that'd point to a Phonon-GStreamer or GStreamer bug.
and/or related to < f12 phonon, not being able to use gstreamer-pulseaudio (aka bug #513421)
Out of curiosity are others noticing this behavior?
Yes, I'm noticing this behavior as well, using juk with gstreamer backend. Worked great in F10 and then F11 until about two weeks or so. Now when I play a album, I get to wait about 5 minutes between each track before the next track plays. No error messages anywhere - just this annoying pause.
Created attachment 362823 [details] amarok --debug 2> err.txt
Me also noticing this behavior. Since one of the latest F11 updates amarok does not play any songs. I uploaded "amarok --debug" Only diff I have is that I use Phonon-Xine.
> Only diff I have is that I use Phonon-Xine. Then it might be a different bug.

Updated the packages as mentioned above and so far everything is working much better with Gstreamer as the preferred backend. No issues with Amarok and slow responses. So as of now I would say this one is fixed. Thanks a lot for the fix!
