---Problem Description---
On HS22 + BComm 57710/57711 10G ethernet, the nic will not get an ip address most of the time on
fresh boots. You have to manually remove the module and reload it or restart networking, sometimes
several times before the interface works properly.

These messages were observed in syslog:

[bnx2x_set_int_mode:6821(eth2)]Multi requested but failed to enable MSI-X set number of queues to 1
[bnx2x_wait_ramrod:6724(eth2)]timeout waiting for state 3000 on IDX [0]
[bnx2x_nic_load:6958(eth2)]Setup leading failed!

Contact Information = jsavo.com

---Additional Hardware Info---
HS22 + BComm 57710/57711 10G ethernet card

---uname output---
RHEL 5.4 GA

Machine Type = HS22

---Steps to Reproduce---
Install RHEL 5.4 on HS22 + Bcomm 57710/57711 10G ethernet. Boot into the system and see if you get
dhcp address on the 10G interface.

If you do get it consistently, try creating a bridge over that 10G interface, this will certainly
cause the failure.

I compiled and installed the latest driver from IBM Test (one stop shop), version 1.50.19. The
adapter gets dhcp address when bridged on every boot, consistently.

Also, the MSI-X error messages are no longer present, but instead I see this:

Broadcom NetXtreme II 5771x 10Gigabit Ethernet Driver bnx2x 1.50.19 ($DateTime: 2009/10/01 10:08:14 $)
bnx2x: part number 394D4342-31373735-30314130-473036
bnx2x: part number 394D4342-31373735-30314130-473036
bnx2x: eth2: using MSI-X IRQs: sp 170 fp[0] 186 ... fp[1] 194
bnx2x: eth3: using MSI-X IRQs: sp 202 fp[0] 218 ... fp[1] 226
bnx2x: eth2 NIC Link is Up, 10000 Mbps full duplex

That was the latest bnx2x driver, fyi

This is the broadcom's driver from broadcom.com. I have verified that
this driver works.

Hello,
It appears there is already a request for the module to be updated:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=515716
It appears this is the same update. This BZ is current accepted for RHEL
5.5. Please let me know if you would like this issue connected to the the
feature request.

Thank You
Joe Kachuck

unfortunately the upstream driver also has the same issue. :( . The
problem does not show up on (amd) LS21 blades. Something to do with ufi?

mchan @ BRCM: can you tell if a fix for this has been included already in bug 515716?

Comment 7 Michael Chan 2009-10-21 19:32:14 UTC
Need to ask Eilon, added him to CC.

Comment 8 Stanislaw Gruszka 2009-11-23 12:04:16 UTC
Please test if packages provided here fix the issue:

http://people.redhat.com/sgruszka/rhel5.5-broadcom/

Please let me know if package for any other cpu arch is needed.

Comment 9 Andrius Benokraitis 2009-12-17 19:52:37 UTC
I believe this is waiting on IBM to test, correct Stanislaw?

Comment 10 Stanislaw Gruszka 2009-12-18 09:09:50 UTC

Hello IBM,
Please let me know if you would be able to test:

To confirm if it resolves this issue.

Thank You

Ram Pai at IBM has agreed to test the broadcom test kernel. He should post results for you later today.

IBM On-site Engineer

Comment 14 Ram Pai 2009-12-23 07:07:25 UTC
issue cannot be reproduced with the new kernel. Tried a couple of times.

Comment 15 Stanislaw Gruszka 2010-01-22 16:06:56 UTC
Since bug is fixed by RHEL5.5 driver update I'm closing it as duplicate.
