xorg.conf file

Description of problem:

On an HP nc2400 with an Intel 945GM video card that previously was running Centos 5.3 with no video problems.

On install of FC12, video was set to 800x600. I installed system-config-display and went to hardware, configuring the monitor of LCD panel 1280x1024, and then seelcted 1024x768 resolution for the setting. I logged out and logged in to reload X, and the video was indeed now at 1024x768.

I then pressed the function combination to switch to the external monitor (which is connected via a Belkin KVM), and it comes up only in 800x600 resolution. when I am at the 'both' displays option, then both the internal and external are 800x600. I cannot get the external at 1024x768 as I previously had with Centos.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Whatever is current with FC12.

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please attach your output of the dmesg command, and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link above.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

Reporter, could you please reply to the previous question? If you won't reply in one month, I will have to close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Thank you.

I would like to reopen this bug, as I am observing _exactly_ the same behaviour on DELL Latitude D520 hardware.

This worked on Fedora 9. And the same installation under WinXP also allows the higher resolutions to display on the external VGA channel.

Please find the requested files attached.

I am sorry, but it would be really much more pleasant for us if you open the new bug for this rather than reopening this one.

Thanks in advance.

BTW, could you take a look please at bug 638124 ... isn't it the same?

Comment 8 Matěj Cepl 2010-09-29 20:03:40 UTC
or maybe even bug 638123 ?

No, that bug concerns fc14 and concerns an unstable image. This report is about two independently observed secondary-screen outputs with reduced resolution.

> or maybe even bug 638123 ?

Yes, although it also concerns fc14, the symptoms are similar. It has been submitted yesterday, so you can mark it a duplicate of this one. I have added a comment.

I do not understand this. Is it really useful to generate a second duplicate, or clone this one with all attachments, just for the pleasure of marking it as a duplicate? Please let me know, if that would really help to save anybody's time?

This bug has been reopened as bug #638770
