Description Alexander Hunziker 2010-09-28 10:11:39 UTC
Description of problem:

If I connect my laptop (a Lenovo T400s, http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_e98beafa-1ec5-4290-91df-777dedfc1be8) to my TV (a 32" Panasonic Viera) via a VGA cable, the highest resolution I can choose is XGA. I know however from connecting the TV to other laptops running Linux that it can successfully display 1366x768 and that it also communicates that resolution to the computer.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

2.12.0-6.fc14

May be related to bug 551920 (though occured with fc12), which contains also more output.

Comment 2 Adam Jackson 2010-11-01 17:09:02 UTC
From a machine where you can successfully set the display to 13x7, please attach the output of 'xrandr --props' and make a note of what GPU is in that machine.

This bug had been reported in January as a regression. Both aforementioned tickets contain complementary and requested information. Have those been analysed?

The list of bugs looks like much has happened, but essentially it was more a shifting around of tickets in the system.

We have reported a malfunction, which seems to present over at least three releases (12-14). If I understand this right, you are asking now for diagnostic output where setting the screen resolution works correctly. Logically that would come from an older or non-RH distribution, which does not even necessarily contain "xrandr".

I am afraid you ask for something users cannot afford. Are there any other diagnostics that can be provided from presently running systems (albeit without the ability to set external screen resolution correctly)?

As far as I am concerned, no extra GPU is in my laptop. According to what I understand, my DELL Latitude D520 has an integrated Intel 950 graphics engine, part of Intenl 945GM Chipset. This seems to be no exchangeable part, and experts are probably more qualified than I to retreive the corresponding information from the DELL website.

"xrandr --props" output with external VGA (VGA1) connected, but not working

I attach the requested "xrandr" output. Apparently it contains the four video resolutions (1024x768/60.0Hz, 800x600/60.3Hz*/56.2Hz, 848x480/60.0Hz, 640x480/59.9Hz), out of which only one (*) works.

I am happy to run more diagnostics on my present system.

needinfo looks like it's provided. this is an f14 bug per the report.

Comment 7 Adam Jackson 2012-01-04 00:16:38 UTC
What I asked for was the output from a machine where 13x7 worked. The attached output does not show this.

Please reopen if this still occurs with F15 or later.

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 19:25:33 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
