The graphical install system fails if the machine has a #9 Revolution 3D video card. It apparently detects the card correctly (says it'll use the I128 server), but then dies with: Fatal server error: no screens found _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111 Traceback (innermost last): File "/usr/bin/anaconda", line 144, in ? from gui import InstallInterface File "/usr/lib/python1.5/site-packages/gui.py", line 9 in ? from gtk import * File "/usr/lib/python1.5/site-packages/gtk.py", line 29 in ? _gtk.gtk_init() RuntimeError: cannot open display install exited abnormally Apparently, this version of XFree86 does deal with the Revolution 3D card (I'll submit that seperately).
You should be able to use the text mode installer to get the system installed. Then rerun Xconfigurator and see what happens. If you still have problems getting the card to work, then it is indeed the fault of the Xserver . . . if however, you are able to get things working correctly under Xconfigurator, then reopen this bug, as there is a problem with the installer. We are already addressing the non-graceful handling of the Xserver failure. ------- Additional Comments From 10/26/99 22:36 ------- Just for reference, it does not work post-install either.
