The patch for this request has been submitted to IBM. Once it has been committed to the upstream kernel, this bz will updated with the relevant commit details. The patch updates the EMC Symmetrix CKD dasd ioctl (refer bz 483154) to root use only. The patch also removes the unnecessary PSF order/suborder check.
Changing target to beta - if possible.
We are currently in the final builds for RHEL 5.5, so deferring this to 5.6 consideration.
Created attachment 399097 [details] Patch as committed by IBM Refer: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=52898025cf7d458d029c18773d0ef49b4789d829
Do we need a separate BZ to get this patch into RHEL 6?
Yes, one bugzilla per release.

That is correct Same patch as BZ 566183
OK, I think the assignee is incorrect in this BZ - setting to the same as bug 566183
A s390 kernel rpm with this fix from comment #6 can be found on my people page. Please see http://people.redhat.com/jfeeney/.rhel5.6. Testing feedback would be appreciated.

Patch confirmed as fully functional. Patched kernel tested was from kernel-2.6.18-222.el5.bz565973.1.s390x.rpm as supplied by John Feeney - Comment 9. [root@xxx]# uname -a Linux xxx 2.6.18-222.el5.bz565973.1 #1 SMP Fri Oct 8 17:51:44 EDT 2010 s390x s390x s390x GNU/Linux Many thanks ....
Quick turnaround on testing, Nigel. Much appreciated.
in kernel-2.6.18-228.el5 You can download this test kernel (or newer) from http://people.redhat.com/jwilson/el5 Detailed testing feedback is always welcomed.
Is there a specific reason to test this drop? Otherwise I'll wait for beta for the next test.

Nigel, sometimes it's easier for folks to just download a kernel and install it on top of 5.5 GA. If not, you can download the Alpha when it is released shortly. Wayne should have the link for you when it's available.
