I've also seen this crash.

Comment 3 Jan Horak 2010-03-05 12:45:38 UTC
Thanks for reporing, we filled an upstream bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=550455 and I'm going to track this issue on mozilla bugzilla.

still happening--should this really be closed if we are continuing to see this problem in Fedora?

Any chance Fedora could apply the "band-aid" patch at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=550455#c4, until the issue is fully resolved upstream?

It doesn't fix the root cause, but it does at least stop TB from crashing every hour.

TB is crippled at the moment, for me.

It just crashes randomly, with or without activity. Sometimes right away, other times after many hours.

Comment 13 Sean Sheedy 2010-03-25 22:00:39 UTC

How to reproduce
-----
1. Apparently random crash

Comment 14 John Poelstra 2010-03-26 14:28:03 UTC
This is crashing multiple times per day... sometimes 5 times in a row, becoming more and more unusable.

Are there any other workarounds besides rebuilding from source with the patch?

Any ETA on a fix for Fedora

log showing times of updates & crashes

These crashes seem to have started on my system with the Mar 2 update to 3.0.2-1.fc12.x86_64. The logs go back to Feb 21, so there's a fair amount of data that no crashes occurred prior to Mar 2.

Comment 17 John Poelstra 2010-03-27 20:13:45 UTC
This has gotten so unusable I've gone back to 3.0.1 and now I don't have any issues. The crashes with the 3.0.3 version only happen on x86_64 version for me.

How does that the patch posted upstream look? Can we evaluate it and spin a test RPM? I for one would be happy to test it.

Comment 23 steve 2010-04-02 10:36:33 UTC

How to reproduce

Since the last update thunderbird seems to crash for no apparent reason. I have no idea how to reproduce this issue.
I normally leave thunderbird open in one workspace while working on another and suddenly abrt pops up reporting this crash.

Comment 24 steve 2010-04-02 10:39:48 UTC
I too (like Dave Allen in comment #22) would be happy to test any possible patch.

Comment 25 Felix Schwarz 2010-04-03 11:46:39 UTC
Assuming that this issue is really caused by https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=550455, I took the upstream patch and applied it to the current Fedora 12 SRPM. There's a koji scratch build (http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=2092397) which you might want to try.

As I don't have any special Thunderbird knowledge, please update with care, make backups etc - this package might eat your mail ;-)

So far I did not have another crash but I only used it for less than one hour.

The koji build provided in comment 25 has been working well for me. I haven't had a single crash for the past 3 days. Thanks Felix!
