Description Mike Chambers 2010-04-05 21:24:34 UTC
Description of problem:When going to a folder, and the the first email is new, and you highlight it, it doesn't get marked as read no matter what time preference is set.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
evolution-2.30.0-1.fc13.x86_64
evolution-bogofilter-2.30.0-1.fc13.x86_64
evolution-help-2.30.0-1.fc13.noarch
evolution-data-server-2.30.0-1.fc13.x86_64

How reproducible:Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Fresh F13 install
2.Start evolution
3.Click on folder that has new emails only or sorted so new emails are at top.
4.Highlight the first new email

Actual results:That first email doesn't get marked as read unless you click on another emails then back, or if you open the email, or right click and select on Mark as read.

Expected results: Should mark the emails as Read when the selected time is set.

Additional info:Just started doign this with this latest version, not the 2.29 version.

Doesn't step 4 happen automatically? We purposefully do not mark as read mails that are automatically highlighted.

Yes step 4 happens automatically, I was just trying to include everything, as was attemping to *do the right thing* haha.

And not sure what you mean by do not mark as read. The preferences for evolution (Edit/Preferences) even has a setting under "Mail Preferences" in the first tab, that states "mark messages as read after set-number-here seconds".

In other words, if I was to go to a folder that has nothing but new emails. And the first email is always selected, it won't get marked as read automatically as I have that preference set in evolution. Now, if I go to the 2nd email (or any other), and select them, they get marked as read after the time limit, and then if I go back to that first email that was originally selected, it now gets marked as read.

In any case, this was working just fine up until 2.30 came out. With 2.29 and below it worked as expected.

I will also take a screen shot of at least the folder and selection part just in case I'm confusing you.

Screenshot showing not marked as read

I clicked on the Network folder, the first email at the top of the preview pane is automatically highlighted, but doesn't get marked as read.

Yes, that behavior is entirely on purpose and took a bit of pain to get right.

When a folder is selected, the state of the message list -- including the highlighted message -- is restored from the last time you viewed the folder. In this use case we supress the mark-as-read timer since we don't want to alter the state of the message list without futher user interaction.

This behavior was actually -broken- in 2.29 and subsequently fixed.
