RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Red Hat Product Errata RHBA-2014:1506 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE cmake bug fix and enhancement update 2014-10-14 01:22:34 UTC

Description Orion Poplawski 2010-06-22 16:49:33 UTC
Description of problem:

There may be other issues, but I think it would be unfortunate if RHEL6 was stuck with cmake 2.6.X for it's lifetime. I would think that now (before release) would be easiest time for a move to 2.8 to take place.

Comment 2 RHEL Program Management 2010-06-22 17:13:28 UTC
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in a Red
Hat Enterprise Linux major release. Product Management has requested further
review of this request by Red Hat Engineering, for potential inclusion in a Red
Hat Enterprise Linux Major release. This request is not yet committed for
inclusion.

It's quite late in the game for any rebase in RHEL6. Can you please elaborate more on features we're missing with 2.6.x version?

Comment 4 Orion Poplawski 2010-06-22 22:45:52 UTC
Main addition that I'm aware of is much better support for other languages including Fortran. It may not turn out to be a big deal, but I could also see projects dropping support for 2.6 as time goes on. I'd be curious to know what in RHEL6 is using cmake, I wouldn't have thought it was that much.

This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for
inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated
in the current release, Red Hat is unfortunately unable to

proposed for the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
If you would like it considered as an exception in the
current release, please ask your support representative.

Any update on this? cmake 2.6 is considerably out of date at this point, and software is beginning to require 2.8. For example, this is preventing packaging of the Fenics project for EPEL.

Can we have a definitive answer - if RHEL is not going to rebase, then we can maybe start to look at a cmake28 package for EPEL.

Comment 15 Jonathan Underwood 2012-05-02 23:50:25 UTC
For info: CMake 2.8.0 was released in September 2009

Comment 16 Orion Poplawski 2012-05-03 04:23:28 UTC
Also, cmake does not affect the runtime for anything and is not a dependency for any non-devel package.

Comment 18 Jonathan Underwood 2012-05-08 00:28:21 UTC
I've generated a parallel installable cmake28 package for EL6 in the meantime, review request here:
