RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description jmccann 2010-07-06 18:13:18 UTC
We currently ship an unmodified GNOME default window manager theme. It isn't bad and is better than what we had immediately before it but it isn't outstanding either. Something that is this high visibility in our product should be as good as we can make it. We had a few attempts at improving the theme that fell short in time and expertise. We should make a final attempt. It is a big bang for the buck - and requires no code changes. We now have a top caliber graphic artist around who has experience creating these kinds of themes.

Perhaps the change can be proposed upstream as well.

Since this will be a visual change we may need to coordinate with the docs team.

This seems to have spawned a blocker in anaconda: bug 615299. The fix is to add Slider/ into /usr/share/themes on the install image, which I verified fixes the problem. However, our image generation scripts should pick this up automatically if the metacity theme has the same name as the gtk theme *and* the new gtk theme is mentioned in /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc, which it is not.

Jon, is there a reason why system-gnome-theme-60.0.1-1.el6 doesn't mention Slider as gtk-theme-name in /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc?

Thanks.

oh, BTW, how is this file supposed to be used:
/usr/share/themes/System/index.theme
i.e. when is the System theme used?

Perhaps we could pick our changes up from there (that would require a lot more difficult testing though).

looks like an oversight

Comment 12 Ray Strode [halfline] 2010-07-20 17:00:12 UTC
Should be set in system-gnome-theme-60.0.2-1.el6
