Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description of problem:
conjunction characters do not appear correctly in KDE applications, like kedit, kwrite, etc. while it gets rendered properly in GTK based applications.

Try typing following three words in GTK and QT based editors.
ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ( keysequence (inscript - Oriya): yf%ev )
ସିଦ୍ଧାନ୍ତ ( keysequence (inscript - Oriya): mfodOevdl )
ସାକ୍ଷର ( keysequence (inscript - Oriya): me&j )

How reproducible:
Everytime

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open gedit & after enabling Oriya (Inscript) type the mentioned words using given key sequences.
2. Open kedit/kwrite & after enabling Oriya (Inscript) type the mentioned words using given key sequences.
3. Open openoffice & after enabling Oriya (Inscript) type the mentioned words using given key sequences.

Actual results:
gedit and openoffice.org renders mentioned words correctly, while kedit/kwrite is not

Expected results:

This issue has been proposed when we are only considering blocker
issues in the current Red Hat Enterprise Linux release.

** If you would still like this issue considered for the current
release, ask your support representative to file as a blocker on
your behalf. Otherwise ask that it be considered for the next
Red Hat Enterprise Linux release. **

ସାକ୍ଷର	କ୍ଷ୍ଣ

most of these are broken in qt

so i can say oriya script having major problem with lohit in qt

Comment 11 Pravin Satpute 2010-08-20 05:45:22 UTC
while more debugging on this i found, most of the prebase combinatoins are kept in above base gsub feature in lohit oriya, which is not as per http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otfntdev/oriyaot/features.aspx

don't know but it still works with all other rendering engine

so i will update lohit oriya fonts so it will work with qt as well.

Screenshort showing some rendering issues.

I've tested the new font. By doing random test i found some issues in kwrite &
lokalize. Please checkout the attachment.

hmm, these combinations were not in my test cases, will be happy if you do some
more testing and let me know if there are any other issue

since we should make a decision whether these problems are from rendering engine or from fonts

problems mentioned in bug summaries and #3 are clearly from font side, will be
happy if you test those and let me know whether they are now working properly
or not? so i can build for at least for earlier mentioned issues and start working on newly test cases given by you
