Add DL580g7 to the bfsort whitelist none

Description Tony Camuso 2010-10-20 14:14:26 UTC
Description of problem:

The DL580 G5 is in the whitelist, but the G7 is not. This was discovered by Amazon when they upgraded their DL580 G5 stock to G7.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Very

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install RHEL5 on DL580 G7
2. Insert PCI option card
3.

Actual results:

Device naming changes from original install

Expected results:

Device naming should remain constant after adding option cards.

Additional info:

The problem was discovered when Amazon upgraded from G5 to G7. The device naming for the devices changed, since the device naming behavior was different, and the scripts no longer worked.

This patch must also be included as a hotfix for RHEL5.4 for Amazon and carried forward to future RHEL5 point releases.

@Tony,

could we get test commitment from either Amazon or HP. Please let us know ASAP. Once we hear back from you, we'll work on getting some test bits out to confirm everything works as expected.

Comment 13 Jarod Wilson 2010-10-28 20:09:04 UTC
in kernel-2.6.18-229.el5
You can download this test kernel (or newer) from http://people.redhat.com/jwilson/el5

Detailed testing feedback is always welcomed.

Hi Tony,

According to the patch, we need a updated version of BIOS, and it seems the official BIOS has not been released yet(I filed a ticket to eng-ops and it's said the latest BIOS was released in July).

So where can I get the latest BIOS(scheduled for release on 19 Nov 2010) or where can I get your 'side-built' BIOS?

Thanks!
Eryu Guan

Comment 16 Tony Camuso 2010-12-01 10:49:31 UTC
The BIOS release scheduled for 19 Nov has not happened yet. I will try to get an ETA for the new BIOS.

Meanwhile, I will try to obtain the most recent side build.

I cannot see all the comments in this bug.

Why is that? Are there some comments I should not be allowed to see?

Comments can be marked as private, Red Hat internal-only, when necessary, but comment #15 appears to have been incorrectly marked as such. Un-privating it...

Comment 19 Tony Camuso 2010-12-03 00:30:57 UTC
Eryu,

I have obtained a side-built BIOS with the correct DMI vendor ID string for testing purposes.

I have reflashed the ROM in hp-dl580g7-02.rhts.eng.bos.redhat.com

System is ready for test.
