RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Fixed In Version: certmonger-0.34-1.el6
Doc Type: Bug Fix
Doc Text:
Previously, the certmonger utility did not display a user-friendly error message when the user ran the ipa-getcert command with privileges that were insufficient for the system bus to allow it to communicate with the certmonger service. With this update, certmonger suppresses the original error message if a user-friendly message is available. The user can display both messages with the -v option.

Red Hat Product Errata RHBA-2011:0570 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE certmonger bug fix and enhancement update 2011-05-19 09:37:40 UTC

Description Dmitri Pal 2010-11-10 21:36:49 UTC
Description of problem:
The certmonger displays an unhelpful message when ip-getcert is called by non root.

* Install certmonger
* Reboot the system
* As non root run ipa-getcert

Actual results:
 Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.76" (uid=500 pid=3468 comm="ipa-getcert) interface="org.fedorahosted.certmonger" member="get_requests" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.fedorahosted.certmonger" (uid=0 pid=2560 comm="/usr/sbin/certmonger))

Expected results:
Meaningful error message. Something like:
"Insufficient access right. Please try operation as root."

Comment 1 Nalin Dahyabhai 2011-01-11 23:46:08 UTC
Fixed in upstream repository, targeting 0.34 release.

Comment 3 Kaleem 2011-03-09 09:46:41 UTC
I tried to verify this with certmonger-0.34-1.el6 on RHEL6.1 Beta.
I observed that meaningful error message is displayed now but along with the debug message as well which was displayed before the fix.

Now the message is:
 "Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.125" (uid=501 pid=24332 comm="ipa-getcert) interface="org.fedorahosted.certmonger" member="get_requests" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.fedorahosted.certmonger" (uid=0 pid=13964 comm="/usr/sbin/certmonger))".
 "Insufficient access. Please retry operation as root."
