Can we get /var/log/messages to see NetworkManager logs? Also, please include output of 'nm-tool' (run in a terminal) and report your kernel version. Thanks. BTW, what does "The usb wireless card doesn't work." exactly mean? You don't see the interface in nm-applet, can't associate with an AP, ...?
Sorry, since my system had been reinstalled again and I didn't update Networkmanager again, I can't provide the log file. The usb wireless card can't be enabled via NetworkManager icon on the top-right of the screen. I didn't set anything. For the detailed kernel, I will add it. But as I know, the standard kernel version of FC14 release is 2.6.35.45.x and it is 2.6.35.48.x after updated. I have tried to start my system by these two kernel, the usb wireless card can't be enabled. I will add the detailed kernel verion. But I think based on the live os, then install the above three packages, maybe the issue will be appear. I have no another machine to test it, sorry.
2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686 2.6.35.6-48.fc14.i686 The mean of "The usb wireless card doesn't work" is below. 1. Click on nm-applet, it shows "the wireless is disabled". 2. Right click on nm-applet, select the "Enable Wireless" but it is invalid. The "Enable Wireless" is still unselected.
It could also be rkfill or state file that blocks Wi-Fi. Check rfkill: rfkill list and state file: cat /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state What laptop do you use? The problem can be caused by a platform driver: see bug 655371.
Thanks for the info. I got it on lenovo E390M. I get the same info with bug 655371 via "rfkill list" command. 0: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Most phenomenon are the same with bug 655371. I make sure they are the same issue.
Wireless is blocked by acer-wmi platform driver. modprobe -r acer-wmi or blacklist it permanently: add "blacklist acer-wmi" to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
