possible fix

I backported a fix from upstream that seems very similar to the problem described in this bug.  In fact Fujistu reported it upstream it looks like. :-)

The upstream commit is: 32c356d76d7e13dcd0675189d8e9c64ef66aa561, though I am having trouble digging up a weblink for it.

further review of this request by Red Hat Engineering, for potential
inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Update release for currently deployed

release.
