Comment 2 Jon Masters 2011-01-11 06:21:12 UTC
This isn't modprobe but rather a specific module. Do you know what module you were actually attempting to load?

Jon.

Comment 3 Jon Masters 2011-01-13 09:09:05 UTC
Setting NEEDINFO to the requester.

Comment 4 jackkee11 2011-01-14 22:10:01 UTC
I'm sorry, as I was not trying to load a specific module, I am not certain specifically which caused it. It could have been done automatically by a system process. If it helps, here are entries from /var/log/messages near the time of the bug.

Comment 5 Jon Masters 2011-02-17 17:04:45 UTC
At this time, we don't have enough information. If the problem re-occurs, please re-open this bug.

Comment 6 Dave Jones 2011-02-18 17:28:20 UTC
We could discover the faulty module by doing this..

1. mv /sbin/modprobe /sbin/modprobe.real
2. create a file /sbin/modprobe using your editor of choice containing

#!/bin/sh
echo Loading module $@ >> /var/log/messages
/sbin/modprobe.real $@

3. chmod +x /sbin/modprobe

Comment 7 Jon Masters 2011-02-23 04:28:55 UTC
True that. Please do try Dave's suggestion and re-open this bug if you are able to collect the data.

Comment 8 Jon Masters 2011-02-23 04:29:28 UTC
(don't forget to clean it up afterward so that your system will upgrade properly)

Comment 9 jackkee11 2011-03-05 05:13:27 UTC
I have not encountered the crash since reporting it. If it helps, these are recent logs that are similar to the previous (when the crash occurred), but with the additional information ("Loading module").

Comment 11 Dave Jones 2011-09-28 19:43:58 UTC
I just noticed something about those addresses.

list_del corruption. prev->next should be ffffffffa014dd68, but was
ffffffffa0149d68

d->9. Single bit got cleared.

list_del corruption. next->prev should be ffffffffa0142d68, but was
ffffffffa0146d68

2->6. Single bit got set.

These sorts of random bit flips are usually indicative of bad memory.
I'd suggest running memtest86 for a day, just to rule that out.

Same here. Description:

/* I connected my 16G USB drive (Bus 002 Device 007: ID 0951:1642 Kingston Technology) that is ext3 with a single partition. The USB drive had data copied from Ubuntu the last time it was connected to a machine.

The laptop has 2 operating systems, Fedora 14 and Windows 7 with grub handling the boot process */

Comment 13 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 21:56:19 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
