Xorg log

Description of problem:

Login and login splash screen are fine, but KDE desktop is completely garbled. Presumably once desktop effects are turned on?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.10.0-7.fc15.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-cirrus-1.3.2-7.fc15.x86_64
kdebase-4.6.2-1.fc15.x86_64
2.6.38.2-9.fc15.x86_64

This used to work not too long ago, although I don't know if desktop effects settings changed.

No xorg.conf

Are you sure you had ever desktop-effects working in KVM w/ cirrus? I don't think it ever worked there. kwin may work without working 3D graphics (it does software rendering if necessary). Could you provide us with ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/messages, please?

Thank you

I guess I can't really speak for sure about the 3D settings previously. But I don't remember changing the settings, and the display did work before.

Comment 5 Matěj Cepl 2011-05-19 16:44:30 UTC
And just to be sure, once you get through splash screen everything works well, or do you have broken whole KDE session?

Comment 6 Orion Poplawski 2011-05-19 16:59:16 UTC
No, login and the KDE setup/splash screen are fine. The KDE desktop session is completely garbled and unusable. Presumably the desktop effects are enabled at this point.

Comment 7 Radek Novacek 2011-05-20 08:34:20 UTC
You can try to disable desktop effect before you start KDE session. You can use following command (as normal user, not root):

kwriteconfig --file kwinrc --group Compositing --key Enabled false

Comment 8 Jaroslav Reznik 2011-05-20 11:16:36 UTC
Could you provide screenshot? Maybe we can identify the pattern in which the screen is garbled.

FWIW - With current rawhide, even the login screen is garbled now.

Comment 11 Orion Poplawski 2011-08-25 16:59:33 UTC
Login screen still garbled with F16 alpha.
