Description manuel wolfshant 2011-05-06 08:02:46 UTC
Description of problem:
The initial problem was discovered at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=701827 ( xchm dies with signal 11 while reading the TOC of a specific document ) . Upon further research done together with the developer of xchm it was discovered that the very same issue appears with kchmviewer, another GUI built on top of chmlib

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

xchm-1.19-5

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install xchm or kchmviewer from Fedora or Fedora EPEL ( tested on RHEL6 and Fedora 14)
2.Open the document available at http://www.springframework.net/doc-latest/reference/htmlhelp/spring-net-reference.chm
3. Watch the SIGSEGV.

Actual results:
Process /usr/bin/xchm was killed by signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
(same occurs with kchmviewer and kchmviewer-qt )

Expected results:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/download.php?group_id=87007&atid=581688&file_id=410713&aid=3297271

Additional info:
Extensive research has been done in cooperation with the developer of xchm, using the latest version ( 1.19-5 ). No obvious issue was found. There is no obvious common link between xchm and kchmviewer but the usage of chmlib.

It was a bug in xchm after all. Sorry for the noise
