Description Jonathan 2011-09-28 21:49:21 UTC
Description of problem:
When using the File->SaveAs "Select File Type by extension" option, the window
resize logic is broken such that the "Save" and "Cancel" buttons are off the
bottom of the screen. This is a particularly a problem when using on small
laptop screens.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gimp 2:2.6.11-21.fc15

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open the dialogue on a screen with low enough height resolution, in my case normal laptop widescreen 1366*768
2.File->SaveAs, click "Select File Type (by extension)"
3.Observe that the bottom of the dialog never returns when the "Select File Type"
option is deselected

Actual results:
dialog buttons off the bottom of the screen requiring close of the file-save
dialog

Expected results:
Selecting/Deselecting the "Select File Type" list should return the dialog to
its original dimensions. Essential controls reachable with "select file type" expanded.

Comment 1 Nils Philippsen 2011-09-29 07:46:35 UTC
As in bug #679453, this needs a fix in gtk2 first before anything can be done in gimp. Changing component.

I can confirm the observed behavior. I've looked into this together with
upstream and found out that the issue has to be fixed in gtk, as the
GtkFileChooser methods used for adding the "Select File Type" expander to the
chooser hide all details of how this widget is added to the file chooser, i.e.
we can't tweak it to shrink the dialog when being collapsed.

Changing component to gtk2.

Michael Natterer (of GIMP upstream) submitted a patch to gtk which, if
incorporated, would allow specifying the desired behavior for the "Select File
Type" expander:

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 17:15:08 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
