I have similar problems with my desktop box: Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01) Problem: After locking the screen with ctrl+alt+l and being inactive for some time, and then if resuming, the wired network is down and can't be resumed. Even a NetworkManager restart does not help. This happens after the update to: NetworkManager-pptp-0.9.0-1.fc16.x86_64 NetworkManager-openvpn-0.9.0-1.fc16.x86_64 NetworkManager-glib-0.9.1.90-3.git20110927.fc16.x86_64 NetworkManager-gtk-0.9.1.90-3.git20110927.fc16.x86_64 NetworkManager-vpnc-0.9.0-1.fc16.x86_64 NetworkManager-openconnect-0.9.0-1.fc16.x86_64 NetworkManager-gnome-0.9.1.90-3.git20110927.fc16.x86_64 NetworkManager-0.9.1.90-3.git20110927.fc16.x86_64
Similar problem after suspend/resume with Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01) Network connection down after resuming my box from suspend, restarting NM does not help, only a reboot is useful. NetworkManager-0.9.1.90-3.git20110927.fc16.x86_64
I forgot: kernel-3.1.0-0.rc9.git0.0.fc16.x86_64
A few questions for you. Bug 735633 has a similar problem with a different wireless card that seems to be fixed by a BIOS update. Do you have a fully updated BIOS on this machine? Do you have anything blocking the wifi listed in 'rfkill' after you come back from resume? Are there any kernel logs or backtraces associated with this?
Ah - I don't have a USB cdrom, but I'll update the system as soon as I get one (hopefully within 24hrs) and will give a feedback afterwards, There are no kernel messages or backtraces. rfkill tells me: wifi: Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes unblocking doesn't work, but the indirectly referenced launchpad bug [1] hints, that the bios update might solve this problem (for a different version at least). So thanks a lot. I'll give feedback soon. 1: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/812866/comments/16
Thanks and sorry for wasting your time. The BIOS update solved the bug. Wouldn't it make sense to connect (some/selected) bugzilla entries to smolt profiles?
