Description Christoph Wickert 2011-10-09 08:47:56 UTC
Description of problem:
Users without a password have no way to select a session (of language and keyboard layout in the past). This is a big problem for passwordless guest accounts.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gdm-3.0.4-1.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install GNOME and at least one other desktop environment
2. set up a user without password in the accounts dialog
3. try to log in as that user

Actual results:
No chance to select another session after clicking on the user name in GDM. The user is logged in straight. No way to select the session before selecting the user either because the session dropdown is greyed out.

Expected results:
User should be able to select the session. There could be a slight delay after selecting the user or the session selection should be available before the user was selected

Additional info:
Given that you know the user name (and not the displayed name) you can select "other" as a workaround. You can then type the username and select the session before you hit return to login.

Comment 2 Chris Smart 2012-05-28 03:59:12 UTC
Just wanted to add that the work around in Christoph's additional info (selecting "Not listed?" and manually typing suername) does not work for me in Fedora 17 (as per my duplicate).

While this does present a list of sessions, upon pressing "Sign In" the selected session is reverted to last session and is therefore unsuccessful.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-06 19:57:11 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
