Created attachment 531743 [details] I attached an abiword file of all my past Fedora 14 Packages that worked perfectly before I updated to Fedora 16 Beta. Description of problem: No sound while doing test of speakers while in settings of package version alsa-firmware-1.0.24.1.2.fc15 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): alsa-firmware-1.0.24.1.2.fc15 How reproducible: Every time while I am testing speakers in sound settings of analog stereo duplex and while playing youtube video's.> (no sound) Steps to Reproduce: 1.Beforehand, I had installed on my laptop the package versions of alsa-firmware;1.0.23-1.fc14;noarch; and alsa-lib:1.0.23-1.fc14:i686 and alsa-utils:1.0.23-3.fc14;i686; and alsa-tools-firmware;1.0.23-1.fc14;i686 and alsa-plugins-pulseaudio;1.0.22-1.fc13;i686; and flash-plugin;10.1.102.65-release;i386;installed Adobe Flash Player 10.1 2.I format (cleaned hard disk) my internal ata toshiba harddisk. 3.I ISO burned Fedora 16 Beta to a cd-r rom from address of beta-i686-live-desktop.iso.ftp.linux.ncsu.edu of which I installed. Now I have installed alsa-firmware-1.0.24.1-2fc15, and alsa-lib-1.0.24-2.fc15 (32bit), and alsa-plugins-pluseaudio-1.0.24-2.fc15 (32bit), and alsa-tools-firmware-1.0.24.1-3.fc16 (32bit), and alsa-util-1.0.24.1-3fc15 (32bit), and adobe flash player version 11.0.1.152 for linux (32bit), firefox. Actual results: Excellent, excelpt I have no sound coming from my laptop speakers nor headphone ear plugs. Expected results: To hear sound coming from my toshiba laptop speakers like they did before I updated from Fedora 14 to Fedora 16 Beta. Additional info: Help needed is Urgent, ASAP.
I do not know how my former fc14 file attachment that worked got tied and named with bug #531743 got there when i filed the attachment while on a similar fc14 (no sound) reported bug page with #607520. And sure bug #751323 is my bug report that I'm trying to desperately get fixed before the gold is released because I have a feeling that many others will expericence the same problem of no sound.
Additionally, from within our auto package install of FC16 sound volume (internal analog settings) icon at the top right of our laptop/desktop monitor screen we need an (ABOUT) because I persume that is alsa-firmware 1.0.24.1-2.fc15 version package, correct? Where we check our speakers and mic, correct?
*internal audio analog stereo duplex* is alsa-firmware? The song video's of YouTube plays better (very fast) than they ever have with the new flash player plugin version but just don't have sound.
Is RH Bugzilla Maintenance used just for maintaining RH Bugzilla or to help maintain and resolve fc16 maintenance problems from proffesionals? I contacted Toshiba's info for maybe a sound driver I could update to on this Toshiba A100 model i'm now using. But all of Toshiba update drivers are for windows xp and vista. I'm beginning to speculate this bug is not a hardware problem. I'll be viewing all the fc14 versions from the attachment above to see if i'm missing any package that fc16 beta did not include resorting with my sound not working. If you check also within that attachment notice i were using the Adobe company's recommended Flash Player released version 10.1.102.65-release,i386, it worked. One similar 10.1.102.64 would not work for me but may others. Note:Flash Players:I tried every FPversion/file download that I could find, yet still, no youtube video's would play. As a last resort i contacted Adobe Company and web-thread chat with personal, explained the situation and of using FedoraOS, Adobe sent me to 10.1.102.65 download. GNOME desktop would recconise this flash player and video's would play and yes, with sound, but KDE desktop would never recconise any flashplayer i could find and play video's. Could this sound problem be within adobe flash player version 11.0.1.152 for linux (32bit), firefox for fc16 ? Video's play very excellent but sound does not.

As the front page says, "Red Hat Bugzilla is not an avenue for technical assistance or support, but simply a bug tracking system.". Fedora is maintained largely by volunteers. It is unfortunate that you are experiencing this issue and sound issues can be extremely frustrating. Although you have provided a considerable amount of information in this report, please be aware that problems with sound can be caused by an extremely large number of different software components within a Fedora system (including ALSA kernel modules, PulseAudio, desktop volume controls, individual applications, software for controlling custom hardware features and more) and you may find it easier to get some informal help to track down the problem before filing bugs (if necessary), so that you can file bugs rather than support requests, and file them against the right component so that the appropriate person can help. This bug is currently filed against alsa-firmware, but alsa-firmware contains firmware drivers for a very small number of specialist sound cards only (which almost certainly does not include your Toshiba laptop). alsa-firmware contains only the "volume control" you see and in all probability it is not the volume control that is at fault here, but the software (Flash), a particular sound setting (e.g. a channel being muted), or possibly a bug in the ALSA drivers (-> kernel) for the particular sound chip you have. Further help resources are listed here: http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-help
"alsa-firmware contains only the "volume control" you see" -> 'alsa-firmware does not contain the "volume control" you see'
I have found alsa realtek audio drivers used in realtek chipsets, within Toshiba with the newest update one of 2011/10, HD audio driver for UK, US and CH. Download of US file linuxpkg-5.16rc25.tar.bz2 which is a bzip archive opened and saved to a folder as (read only) package using archive manager. From: ftp://207.232.93.28, named realtek-linux-audiopack-5.16 (3.7MB) Will this package work with Fedora 16? And without conflicts from my now installed alsa-firmware-fc15? To test this package to see if it enables my sound, whats the next step? Leave the folder alone? Or, extract the folder and thats all? And/or what's the next step? Linux is very new to me!! There's different audio driver packages with different versions of realtek-alsa-audio packages at Realtek company for Windows and Linux. Heres the address: http://218.210.127.131/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false just incase someone is familiar with this problem and can test/correct it and/or Linux/yum could add the realtek alsa packages to our add/remove program and/or software updates.
Heres more data!! And if this alsa is just a volume control then they need to clear the test speakers and test mic icons out.
I consider this a bug if my Toshiba laptop was working very excellent with Fedora 14 and with sound until I changed over to Fedora 16 Beta. I'm assuming just like Fedora 16 Beta displayed,"Fedora 16 is only for test and not for use." Meanwhile, if all else fails I might try format my harddrive (clear everything) once more and install the new Fedora 16 Verne going to be released this tuesday to the public. If sound still does not work nor can fix it, I will install Windows XP or Vista compatible back again or another OS.
Correction: It Read* "Fedora 16 Beta is only for test and not for use"* Aditionally, I'm suprised that Linux kernel nor yum have not already added the different alsa audio driver versions from Realtek for Fedora and others to test towards maybe engageing sound if some have a problem. Just as suprised 3 or 4 or maybe more years ago with FC12,13 or 14 when I had to contact Adobe Flash Player company for advise and get their package 10.1.102.65-release,i386 for Linux because the package would not be displayed anywhere, before my youtube and other videos would play. But the 10.1.102.64-release was a exe.file for Windows.
Tony, please stop flame! User support goes through forum and appropriate mail lists. For more info look at https://fedoraproject.org/en/get-help Such you influence is only frustration and have no any bug report information.
No flame Pavel, just panic ;-) Tim you are right this is not a bug. This problem is with Flash Player because through my ear phones I can hear connect when I plug them in and a very faint sound like a radio sounds when you have it turned off air. Just my luck I see windows FP 10.1.102.64 but no see linux FP 10.1.102.65 i386 that worked for me with fc14. A 10.3.... something.. also would work. Oh well, i just do like i did before, try downloading them all in hopes of finding the right one or pay flash player 39 dollars for advice on right one. This is not good for Fedora and linux. This very very bad confusion for folk leads downhill to no where for linux. Linux needs different options on the different versions for folk to try incase one dont work. If I could get back in my fc14 i had the flash package that worked saved and bundled up on my desktop.
Also, My eyes played tricks on me, I always thought this toshiba laptop system model was System: Satellite A100 PSB10U-SA10ES1 as stated in the terminal reading above, but its not. This is toshiba laptop System: Satellite A105-S4274 vista capable and i have another toshiba laptop model A105-S2131 but windows xp is installed in it.
The terminal reading above under (device) has this system wrong. My stcker on bottom of this laptop reads Toshiba Satellite A105-S4274 System Unit, Model NO. PSAA8U-0EQ034. Gone now to file bug with Adobe Flash Player at https://bugs.adobe.com/flashplayer/ other complaints of plays video but with no sound problems are there in the FP forums.
Report a Bug or Request a Feature: at http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_cpsid_83975_en-us * I'm sure thousands will have this very same problem but it will be very confuseing unless they know the immediate source of the problem and to seek help from Adobe that can provide a solution and not seek alternatives for an easier solution resorting in leaving our excellent Fedora and/or Linux.
Come-on developers Adobe flash player needs help writing code/adding your own natives and save us from much confusion, inturn it would make Fedora/Redhat/Linux the BEST. At http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1324
Additionally, at http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1111 Adobe provides the following tools for developing SWF files (the file format that executes in Flash Player) can find there. And/or for this: Apply for a License › https://www.adobe.com/products/players/fpsh_distribution1.html And they send you a email. You will have to click the link to verify your email address and then they will send you a link to a web page where you can download the latest msi or exe. Also, http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/flash_player_admin_guide.html Along with developers Flash Professionals tech forum page advice. at http://forums.adobe.com/community/flash
Adobe flash player also has an excellent Facebook page that developers would absolutely love at. https://www.facebook.com/flashplatform?sk=wall Any advice on another flash site we could use thats availible or does adobe have a monopoly on flash?
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/max-2011-develop/flash-builder-tips-and-tricks/ Fedora 16 Verne is excellent beyond the best, but just finding the flash thats fully compatible with 16 for me is what I need for my sound. Like last time, I will find it. I would mark this as a newly released Fedora 16 (verne) version bug towards Flash Player not being fully compatible with the new Flash Player.
It appears this flash would help enable sound, although its free but only built for Windows. http://soft.foxtab.com/flv-player/gc/sg/?adnm=14514302632&lg=EN&cc=US&c=1&d=1&cid=_21564889&kw=&mn=www.codecguide.com&Network=D&expr=&agid=_2723287783 and http://www.codecguide.com/fix_for_flash_sound_problems.htm
Also free but for Windows http://www.downlopedia.com/instacodecs?v=1&gclid=CKXL8emwp6wCFUgZQgodfi4VEA Get all the video codecs that you need in one package. InstaCodecs allows you to play 99% of the video files on your computer or laptop. It supports all of the following movie file types: XviD, H.264, FLV1, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, MPEG-4. InstaCodecs now also includes converting technology for both audio and video formats.
Here's very interesting conversations that developers might like about creating an open source flash player. This comes from within adobe bug reporting forums. http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-2504 Update on no sound from laptop speakers: I found and installed from our fedora's yums add/remove software the pnmixer package because the little sound volume settings (speaker looking) icon thats on my very top right of my laptop monitor is provided by pnmixer, although, as of now has no identifing name tag on it. After install now the pnmixer confiquration settings for volume control of playback, recording, output and input devices, confiquration tab settings are displayed at my very lower right of my laptop monitor. PNMIXER settings is a little confusing at first because if an icon is light blue that means its turned on and if its light black means its turned off. I set my confiquration settings to playback of system sound is on and show applications, recording is set to show applications, output devices is turned on and set with show all output devices, input devices is set with show all except monitors, confiquration internal audio profile is set with analog stereo output. With my ear plugs plugged in the sound similar to a radio broadcast station radiowave when ones radio is off channel goes from a very faint distinctive sound to a very clear louder radiowave sound, but yet, no sound. I'm still checking with Adobe flash player towards a fix and if all else fails I will try upgrading from the prerelease fedora 16 beta to fedora 16 (verne). But I'm hoping for a fix first. I'll keep you all posted how it goes because this might help others if they ever experience this problem.
Tony, your enthusiasm for this is admirable, but this is regrettably not the appropriate forum for these discussions and your comments here are not reaching the audience that you intend. I would suggest writing your research and discoveries in the form of a blog, or discussing them on an appropriate mailing list (taking care to ensure it's appropriate to the issue - problems with specific hardware are quite different to discussions about open source Flash players, even if in this context they are both relevant to your issue). Support resources were mentioned in comment #6.
Located the bug to my sound problem, the PNMIXER < specific hardware! It is the Fedora 16 auto supplied volume control PN/PNMIXER. When music from YouTube and other sites are playing, although, I have my volume turned all the way-up and tried out on all the settings, the volume output while in PNMIXER views it to ALWAYS be playing way down in silent-mode or below and never goes past that towards high volume. I already have a volume control knob on the front of my laptop so why do I need another? Maybe they are not compatible? Because PNMIXER does not recognize my (built in) volume control when I turn it up or down. Can't tell me this is no bug, common sense tells me that this is Fedora's auto furnished application package + causing (no sound) trouble that I never have experienced before = too a Fedora and a Red Hat bug. Bound to be a solution for this bug, but what? Try uninstall of both sound setting pn and pnmixer with hopes my built-in will then work? Are there another package to use? Use the same or whatever package I were using before with Fedora 14 (if it still exists?) or switch to a different operating system? Any help with this bug would be most appreciated because i'm very sure many many more will experience this no sound problem.
Sound fixed after the last 34 new updates. Updates with The Linux kernel, kernel-3.1.1-1.fc16 (32bit) (computer generated voice with cursor navigation for the blind included). I installed google-chrome-stable-15.0.874.120-108895 (32bit) I viewed it has Google alsa support also. Along with the other 34 new updates fixed my sound problem.
