Description of problem: With the recent upgrade to 3.4.0-1 (64-bit) kernal, Network Manager is not detecting my internal ThinkPad GOBI Broadband Wireless WAN - Gobi 3000 (U.S.). When I powerdown and restart with the previous Kernal, Network Manager detects my internal Wireless WAN card and I'm able to select it. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 3.4.0-1 How reproducible: At will Steps to Reproduce: 1.(Re)Start PC and select 3.4.0-1 kernal at GRUB 2.Go to Network Manager, no Wireless WAN (AT&T) listed 3.(Re)Start PC and select any previous kernal at GRUB 4.Go to Network Manager, see and can select my Wireless WAN (AT&T) card and sucessfully links Actual results: No Option to select under Network Manager my Wireless WAN (AT&T) Card Expected results: See Option in Network Manager to select my Wireless WAN (AT&T) card Additional info:
What module was being used for this in the 3.3 kernels?
I don't know, how do I find out?
Boot into the 3.3 kernel, run 'dmesg' and 'lsmod' and attach the output here. Do the same for the 3.4 kernel.

An update came in this morning that fixed my problem. This issue can be closed.
Sorry, but the problem has reoccured. I have no idea why, but my AT&T WAN card is not being recognized with this 3.4 kernel while it is fine with the previous 3.3 kernel.
Hello??? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
I'm experiencing the same problem with the 3.4.0 and 3.4.3 kernel, as well as with the rawhide 3.5.x kernels. What's changed with 3.4.x is the introduction of qmi_wwan/cdc-wdm support. Previously only the serial interfaces to the Sierra Wireless MC8355/Gobi 3000 card were available. However, the new driver isn't working correctly. I see this at boot: kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] qmi_wwan 2-1.4:1.0: cdc-wdm0: USB WDM device kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] qmi_wwan 2-1.4:1.0: wwan0: register 'qmi_wwan' at usb-0000:00:1d.0-1.4, Qualcomm Gobi wwan/QMI device, 26:d2:53:d5:a6:e2 kern :warn : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] qmi_wwan: probe of 2-1.4:1.1 failed with error -22 kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] usbcore: registered new interface driver qcserial kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] USB Serial support registered for Qualcomm USB modem kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] qmi_wwan 2-1.4:1.2: cdc-wdm1: USB WDM device kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] qmi_wwan 2-1.4:1.2: wwan1: register 'qmi_wwan' at usb-0000:00:1d.0-1.4, Qualcomm Gobi wwan/QMI device, 26:d2:53:d5:a6:e2 kern :warn : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] qmi_wwan: probe of 2-1.4:1.3 failed with error -22 kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] usbcore: registered new interface driver qmi_wwan kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] qcserial 2-1.4:1.1: Qualcomm USB modem converter detected kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] usb 2-1.4: Qualcomm USB modem converter now attached to ttyUSB0 kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] qcserial 2-1.4:1.3: Qualcomm USB modem converter detected kern :info : [Thu Jun 21 10:15:14 2012] usb 2-1.4: Qualcomm USB modem converter now attached to ttyUSB1 That "probe of 2-1.4:1.3 failed with error -22" is the problem. After loading qmi_wwan, one should be able to write to /dev/cdc-wdm0 to send AT commands and read responses from it. However, when I try this I read a short string of binary garbage and then get no further response. The only way I've been able to get the card back into a usable state (that is, using ppp as was possible with the 3.3.x kernels) is to unload both the qcserial and qmi_wwan modules, and then reload just qcserial. In that case, the system registers 3 serial interfaces, one of which is the modem.
The USB device id for the card in question is 1199:9013, by the way.
This patch seems to work: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg65981.html
Thank you very much for the pointer. I've fixed this in Fedora git for f16/f17.

(In reply to comment #12) > Thank you very much for the pointer. I've fixed this in Fedora git for > f16/f17. Thanks for doing that. Good to see that this was resolved. But if I may make a small request as the one responsible for creating this bug: Please forward such issues upstream as soon as possible. I'd rather have a million "help, my modem does not work" mails in my mailbox than miss reports like this one. Fedora do an important job as early adopters, having a large user base virtually living on the edge :-) Please help me and other driver authors take advantage of that by forwarding driver bugs. Many drivers are like this one, supporting a large number of devices based on assumptions and more or less educated guessing. The authors rarely have access to all the supported hardware, and receiving bug reports is therefore essential. That's the only way we'll ever know that our assumptions were wrong. Like in this excellent example. I was perfectly aware that the assumption causing the bug could be wrong, so it only took me a few minutes to actually fix the bug after receiving the first report. Unfortunately that was two whole weeks after this bug was opened, and the fix just missed 3.4.4 by a few hours. Which is why I decided to add this comment. Timely forwarding of bugs is really important. The fix for this bug could have been in 3.4.4 if I had just known about this bug report. You'd better thank the Archlinux user who contacted me directly with the same problem. That's why the bug was fixed June 21st instead of yesterday when I first noticed this bug report.... Bjørn (personally responsible for adding all bugs to the qmi_wwan driver)

I'd rather > have a million "help, my modem does not work" mails in my mailbox than miss > reports like this one. We'd be happy to forward bugs to you from now on. We can even CC you on them once we figure out it is relevant to something you maintain. Not all maintainers like bugzilla or have bugzilla accounts so we tend to not just randomly CC people. I think it's great you'd like to see bug reports.
As the orginator of this bug, I REALLY appreciate the self evaluation on how to respond more quickly to these. Thank you!!
