Description Daniel Belton 2012-09-12 04:48:19 UTC
Description of problem: Upon installation of Fedora 18 Alpha RC2, There is no package customization available

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 18 Alpha RC2

How reproducible: Start installer, and select what packages to install

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual results: No option to customize the package installed.

Expected results: In the past, there were options to select/deselect which packages were installed. This cut down the amount of time drastically for an install since I did not have to go back after the install finished and remove the unwanted packages. The install of F18 TC2 too approx. 9 hours longer to get my system into a state comparable to a fresh F17 install using the package customization in anaconda.

For example. I don't install PackageKit, Evolution, Empathy, or Telepathy. If I select graphical internet, then Evolution gets installed. Prior versions, I could deselect Evolution and select Thunderbird.

Now, I have 2 options, a bare minimal install and add the numerous packages I want or a desktop install and delete the numerous packages I don't want. Either option take a lot more time and effort than just going down a package list and checking/unchecking packages on the install.

To be completely honest, I left Windows because there were no options, and I can leave Fedora as well. I sure would hate to since I have been using Fedora since FC1 and before that, RHL since 4.1, but I have to be able to set my system up how I want it to be.

I use the install DVD to give me the options not available on the LiveCD's, but it appears there is no reason to even look at the DVD's anymore. All functionality has been removed.
