+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #835048 +++ Description of problem: when I use on-screen keyboard with gnome shell I get it invoked automatically when search tray is clicked. I think all applications with writable widgets (gedit, g-terminal, and others) should do it as well. Don't know if gtk3 is the right component for it but it seems to me like gtk is component spreading signals to a11y, correct me if I am wrong please. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gtk3-3.4.3-2.el7 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1.activate on-screen keyboard in control-center 2.hide it 3.open gedit Actual results: I would like to write via on-screen keyboard into gedit Expected results: have to go into tray and invoke it manually Additional info: --- Additional comment from mclasen on 2012-10-29 09:56:19 EDT --- This should be addressed by comps changes to pull in caribou-gtk[23]-module. Can you please retest with those 2 packages installed ?
Still reproducible with: gtk3-3.6.1-1.fc18.x86_64 caribou-0.4.4-1.fc18.x86_64
Turns out that the main caribou package was broken in that the daemon didn't have its python files to actually work. The rpm dependencies should be fixed now with caribou-0.4.4.2-5.fc18 . Can you confirm that?

That sounds like Bug 879672 "missing(?) dependency to caribou-gtk3-module" (In reply to comment #2) > Turns out that the main caribou package was broken in that the daemon didn't > have its python files to actually work. That sounds like a fix to some other problem?

It's part of the fix for this problem because you need the caribou daemon running to trigger the OSK on non gtk+ applications.
I have removed caribou and installed again using yum. Caribou has pulled python-caribou package but not gtk modules. But, I can see onscreen keyboard whenever I focus on writable widgets(tested gnome-terminal, gedit, firefox, gnome search box) using caribou-0.4.4.2-6.fc18.x86_64 I have only caribou and python-caribou installed on my system and no gtk modules. Please verify if this bug is fixed or not?
I reported the duplicate bug 814574. Sadly, I cannot test this again right now, as the vendor wanted their tablet back when they lost out in the race to provide our new pc's. Waiting a little bit to see what tablets our new vendor come up with before I can test again.
works as expected. when I click widgets with text keyboard is invoked automatically. -> VERIFIED
Thanks Vladimir for testing this. I am closing this bug, birger.
