Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Doc Text:
Previously, "NETMASK" was defined in the hypervisor network configuration file by the string "PREFIX". Install scripts that were used to install the necessary Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization packages and to configure the hypervisor network did not understand the PREFIX line, and the installation failed. A fix was introduced that identifies the PREFIX line as meaning NETMASK=255.255.255.0. The installation no longer fails when trying to configure the hypervisor network.

Description Tomas Dosek 2012-12-21 07:47:58 UTC
Description of problem:
[RFE_Template]

1. Proposed title of this feature request
Ans:RHEV hypervisor-tools install fails on RHEL6 when prefix is used in network configuration

2. Who is the customer behind the request?
Account name:Hybrid-It
Customer segment:Premium
TAM/SRM customer: no
Strategic Customer:no

3. What is the nature and description of the request?
Ans: setting up one of the RHEL6 hosts as the RHEV manager and adding the others as hosts in the RHEV manager, the installation of the RHEL6 as hypervisors fail when the RHEV manager tries to configure the network. The error message is: Failed to install Host rhev001. Step: SetNetworking; Details: addNetwork

4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
Ans: The install scripts that are used to install the necessary RHEV packages and configure the hypervisor network do not understand the PREFIX line, and the installation fails. These scripts have to be able to either understand the PREFIX line or replace it with a corresponding NETMASK line.

5. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat bugzilla?
Ans: Bug 795991 vdsm needs a warning message when it encounters the GATEWAYDEV option in /etc/sysconfig/network on existing RHEL systems

6. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies?
Ans:no

7. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?
Ans:no

Comment 2 Dan Kenigsberg 2012-12-24 20:40:37 UTC
This is a duplicate of bug 886190.

Given the number of complaints about this, I'd suggest to try and solve it in rhev-3.1.z, too. Hence, I'm keeping this bug open.
