It happened while running out of memory because I was loading lots of data in an application. I also tried starting the Shell manually, and the same crash happened. FWIW, mutter also crashes. backtrace_rating: 4 Package: gnome-shell-3.6.2-6.fc18 OS Release: Fedora release 18 (Spherical Cow)
Created attachment 676508 [details] Another backtrace of the crash Just in case it could be useful, I got this manually.
My GPU is an Intel Ironlake (i915 driver): 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Aleksey, what's your graphics card model?
Filed against gnome-shell here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=691506 But this may not be a gnome-shell bug.

Could somebody move this to the kernel or Intel drivers component?
Same here with Ironlake graphics.

Actually, starting gnome-documents I get the same crash in brw_wm_surface_state.c. This is definitely a bug in the Intel drivers: I filed it upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59280
The bug is apparently known upstream for several months, and a patch is currently being tested: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55984 So this can probably be CLOSED UPSTREAM.
same issue when hotplugging an external DVI display to a ThinkPad with Ironlake graphics.
The patches from upstream[1] have been included in kernel 3.8-rc4. Would it be possible to get them included in the standard 3.7 F18 kernel? Thanks! 1: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55984
