Description of problem: Test page can be printed, all applications don't print and cause error on printer Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 1.5.4-20.fc18.i686 How reproducible: always printing from libreoffice, evince, gimp Steps to Reproduce: 1.print any kind of document 2. 3. Actual results: error on my Samsung Laser printer ML-1610 Expected results: it should print Additional info: Working fine on F17
I can print from firefox, thunderbird, Adobe Reader. In any case opening of printer window for selecting printer (I have a multiple choice of printers) is really slow (I am using an old prinetr server P4 with only 1GB of RAM)...never experienced with F17
Created attachment 704529 [details] /var/log/cup/ error file tried to print from libreoffice writer (in the last lines)
I get the On Line/Error led flashing green (as normal), then turning red with some applications
I made another test: libreoffice with only text prints fine, it stops when an image is in the document
EOG doesn't print any image, funny that if I load an image in Firefox, printer works fine

Please do this: su -c 'cupsctl --debug-logging' to turn on debugging, then try printing again. Afterwards, turn off debugging again: su -c 'cupsctl --no-debug-logging' Finally, attach /var/log/cups/error_log. Thanks.
There have been couple similar bugs, like bug #827632, bug #828301 and bug #864492. I'd prefer using SpliX driver for Samsung ML-1610. - install SpliX with 'yum install splix' - systemctl restart cups.service - run system-config-printer - double-click Samsung-ML-1610 - press 'Change...' to change Make and Model - select Samsung, '->Forward' - select 'ML-1610' on the left side and 'Samsung ML-1610, 2.0.0' on the right side, '->Forward', 'Apply'

installing splix, made printing work fine (as per comment #8 )
The question is: how come splix wasn't installed automatically when configuring this printer? It seems to have lost all the postscriptdriver tags...
This is a brand new installation of F18: in the past it was running from F4 to F17 as updated system with no problems, I forgot to check if splix was installed
Yes, but splix should be installed automatically when the printer is connected. It wasn't, and that's because of a problem with the splix package. Problem identified: it needs to have 'BuildRequires: python-cups, cups', not just 'BuildRequires: python-cups'.
Fixed in commit 7561f7e432e202f561c5e00d76938a20bde23fa0.

Package splix-2.0.1-0.15.20121128svn.fc18: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 18 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days. Update it with: # su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing splix-2.0.1-0.15.20121128svn.fc18' as soon as you are able to. Please go to the following url: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2013-3492/splix-2.0.1-0.15.20121128svn.fc18 then log in and leave karma (feedback).
I understood that splix should be installed automatically?? if so, it doesn't work as updates-testing repo is disabled. If I install splix by hand, correct driver is installed.
(In reply to comment #18) > I understood that splix should be installed automatically?? correct > if so, it doesn't work as updates-testing repo is disabled. Can you enable it for testing purposes ? Just change enabled=0 to enabled=1 in /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates-testing.repo Then - yum remove splix - turn the printer off - remove the printer in for example system-config-printer - turn the printer on
confirmed as working fine
