Comment 1 Truls Gulbrandsen 2018-06-15 20:15:19 UTC
The problem still exists. I get the same error doing: dnf install rapid-photo-downloader.

I have freshly installed Fedora Design Suite 28.

Comment 2 arnaud056 2018-06-19 16:33:55 UTC
I'm exactly in this case by trying to install rapid-photo-downloader too.

Comment 3 Truls Gulbrandsen 2018-06-19 19:57:32 UTC
I have successfully upgraded a different PC from Fedora 27 to 28 and the Rapid Photo Downloader still works.

Investigating I see that it uses python-kaa-metadata from the Fedora 27 repository. I have not found the way to install this package on the failing machine, but I am sure there is a way to enable this repository.

The source is: python-kaa-metadata-0.7.7.16fc27.src.rpm on repo @System

Comment 4 arnaud056 2018-06-21 15:16:01 UTC
I had success by installing 2 rpms locally instead of enabling the F27 repo.
python-kaa-metadata and python-kaa-base (dependancy for python-kaa-metadata) are necessary and can be found e.g. here https://fedora.pkgs.org/27/fedora-x86_64/python-kaa-base-0.6.0-17.fc27.x86_64.rpm.html

After both rpms are installed, rapid-photo-downloader can be installed on F28 without issue.

Comment 5 Truls Gulbrandsen 2018-06-24 20:06:20 UTC
I can confirm the work around by installing the packages mentioned by arnaud56. I tested this on two different machines; one desktop where I actually manage my photographs and the laptop I have for universal use.

Comment 6 HaJo Schatz 2018-07-29 12:26:53 UTC
+1 -- any plan to provide python-kaa for F28? Manually installing F27 packages is obviously not the proper solution...

Comment 7 Truls Gulbrandsen 2018-08-04 18:41:43 UTC
The present version of rapid-photo-downloader in Fedora is 0.4.11, however, the latest version from the developers is 0.9.10.

By including this latest version the package conflict may be solved. Are you considering upgrading to the latest version in Fedora 28?

For installed rapid-photo-downloader in Fedora 28 (pb python-kaa-metadata needed no solved) : used this script => https://launchpad.net/rapid/pyqt/0.9.10/+download/install.py

Download this script (by author rapid-photo-downloader) and run with sudo.
Fast installation after download different files.

Thanks for this, but I didn't get it to work. Besides the installation instruction specifically says no sudo.

My concern was to inform the Fedora people about the upgraded version and hopefully have them pull this into the current distro. However, it is disturbingly little response from Fedora (or I might not have recognized them).

Comment 10 eduardo.perezesteban 2018-11-06 10:26:30 UTC
This is still present in Fedora 29... pakage "rapid-photo-downloader" version "0.4.11-10.fc29" requires "python-kaa-metadata" and "python-kaa-base", but neither of them is available for Fedora 29.

Comment 11 Keit 2018-11-10 10:31:25 UTC
According to https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/python-kaa-metadata and https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=958552, it seems the package for F28 was deleted, probably due to upstream link being dead.

Maybe this package is not necessary any more. Not seeing anything related with kaa packages in the script mentioned on comment 8.

Comment 12 Ben Cotton 2019-05-02 20:10:13 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 28 is nearing its end of life.
On 2019-May-28 Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for
Fedora 28. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases
that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as
EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '28'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 28 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.
