Description of problem: 1) The screen where you create the administrative user: A better title might be "Create an Administrative User" 2) The Maven repository screen has typos and it is not clear that you must have installed the repository. Maven should be capitalized. There is no such word as 'maven-repository'. I suggest we change the wording to the following text. I also believe the wording can remain the same regardless of which radio button is checked. Maven Repository Setup ---------------------- A Maven repository is available that allows you to build the quickstarts using the same artifacts that were used to build JBoss Enterprise Application Platform. This repository can be accessed on a publicly hosted server or you can choose to download and install it on a local server. If you plan to use the publicly hosted Maven repository with the quickstarts: * Choose 'Skip configuration of the Maven repository', then click 'Next'. * The quickstarts provide instructions for configuring the settings.xml file to use the public repositories. If you prefer to use a local repository: * Make sure you have downloaded and installed the Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6.2.0 Maven Repository from the Customer Portal * Then choose 'Configure the locally installed Maven repository' and specify the locations of the Maven repository and settings.xml file. * A profile that configures the local repository is added to settings.xml file. <radio-button> Skip configuration of the Maven repository <radio-button> Configure the locally installed Maven repository Specify the location of the Maven repository: <text-field><browse-button> Specify the location of the Maven settings.xml file: <text-field><browse-button> Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. I like the look of these suggestions.
Thanks Thomas. Also, the "Select the packs you want to install" screen only seems to have one pack. I couldn't find any paths in the wizard that result in more than one. Am I missing something? Is this screen even necessary?
You should be able to expand that node to see the other packs :)
Of course. How silly of me! ;-) I just noticed if choose to install the quickstarts, then choose to skip the Maven configuration step, a dialog pops up that says: "A valid maven-repository with Red Hat artifacts is required for hte quickstarts to operate. Would you like to continue installation anyway?" This is misleading because as noted in the instructions for the publicly hosted Maven repository, the quickstarts provide instructions for configuring the settings.xml file. I am torn between just letting them proceed with no warning, or displaying a dialog that says something like: "You have chosen to use the publically hosted repository and must configure the the Maven settings using the instructions provided in the quickstart README file. Click Yes to continue or No to go back and configure the local Maven Repository". I'm leaning towards just letting them proceed since they do not need to download the Maven repository in this release. Ideally, we would configure the settings either way. We could easily configure the profiles for the public repository. What do you think?
The documentation shows a JDK install screen[1] but I can't seem to get it to appear. Does it only show up if no JDK is detected? [1] See: https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/JBoss_Enterprise_Application_Platform/6.2/html-single/Installation_Guide/index.html#JDK_Setup
Hmm. I am not 100% sure, but it may have been removed not too long ago. It should appear after electing to install quickstarts (the original rationale was that installing quickstarts without a JDK would be frivolous, I'll see if I can't find the BZ referencing this change somewhere.)
To be clear, when I stated "Ideally, we would configure the settings either way. We could easily configure the profiles for the public repository.", I meant it as an option the user can choose to have done for them. They should be able to choose not to update the settings.
I created a separate bug for the automatic configuration option: Bugzilla 1048942
I'm back :). BZ for JDK removing is BZ1024670. Installation guide is quite outdated, there are many BZs for this (most important here are BZ1014535 and BZ1022362). Outdated screen you mentioned in comment 5 is IMO covered by BZ1022362. I also like the suggestions for new screen content.
Will this bug fix make the 6.3 release? I just tried the installer and the Maven screen does not appear to be changed. I need to update the screen shots and instructions in the documentation if this does make the release.
Hello, I will apply the changes above for the next build. The goal is to definitely include the suggestions in the 6.3.0 release, because they're all good.
Thanks! I will created a related bug to make sure the documentation is updated to match the installer screens. :-)
Additionally there are some improvements to the installation process. For instance, installing a vault no longer requires a keystore to already exist; it will be generated at install time. There are a few more enhancements along these lines. Anyway I can see this documentation? Thanks, Tom
Hi Tom, Thanks for letting me know. There are 2 places you can look at the current documentation: 1. This is where it's documented in the Installation Guide: http://docbuilder.usersys.redhat.com/22510/#Run_the_JBoss_Enterprise_Application_Platform_Installer1 2. I created a different topic in the Getting Started Guide: http://docbuilder.usersys.redhat.com/22569/#Run_the_JBoss_Enterprise_Application_Platform_Installer1 There I tried to simplify the instructions in the Getting Started Guide because the idea is to get up and running as quickly and simply as possible. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks, Sande

Tom and I discussed this today and came up with a simpler Maven Repository Setup screen We ran the screen mockups by the User Experience group and they suggested some improvements. I've attached the resulting mock-ups we all agreed upon.
Tom, I think this one can be moved to ON_QA. It is in the ER2 build.
Thanks. Changed to reflect this.
