Created attachment 937886 [details] comparison of default fedora calc features and those from another prominent OS. Description of problem: Gnome-calculator has a super plain UI, no menus, and help which is too basic hidden behind F1 (assuming you think to press F1 with no visual clues). This is inferior to earlyer releases of gnome-calc, and significantly inferior to the windows calculator. This regression has come up and been fixed in the past, eg https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=644802 As a programmer I need hex from time to time, and when the need comes up I waste plenty of time trying to figure out how to enable it on the stock calculator. I am still not sure if it supports it or not. Searching other bugs I think this super basic looking calcultor may have functionality hidden in it, although nobody would know its there. EG: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1035771 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-calculator-3.10.2-1.fc20.x86_64 How reproducible: Every time Steps to Reproduce: 1.Boot to default gnome environment 2.Run the first calcuator you find 3. Actual results: Useless tool comes up. Waste time in frustration looking for alternatives. End up using windows in a VM. Expected results: A basic looking calculator with a menu where 'programmer' mode can be selected. Additional info: I understand this may be a problem with gnome 3 in general. If that is the case then changes are required upstream. Alternatively the default calculator needs to be changed within fedora. gnome-calculator is an embarressment to the OS.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 20. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
