screen-cast: copying and pasting NIC MAC address

Comment 2 Einav Cohen 2015-02-20 17:06:09 UTC
I do agree that it would be ideal to be able to copy the value straight from the NICs grid in the sub-tab, rather then from the 'Edit NIC' dialog.
However, there are currently several issues with selecting/copying values from the grids in the GUI:

(1) when right-clicking anywhere on the grid, the RHEV actions context-menu is 'overriding' the native browser right-click menu (which includes the 'Copy' option) (tracked via bug 1194749).

(2) when selecting text-content within the grid, this selection is lost once the grid is being refreshed (which happens automatically every 5 seconds by default), which would require the user to be very quick with his copying process -> annoying (tracked via bug 1194754).

Comment 3 Einav Cohen 2015-02-20 17:06:52 UTC
at least as a temporary workaround, the user can copy and paste the MAC address from the 'Edit NIC' dialog, as depicted in attachment 993961 [details] - this at least gives a copy-paste option, which should eliminate the time-consuming, annoying and error-prone issues.

I must comment that marking the text does copy it to the "Linux clipboard" (to be pasted by clicking the middle mouse button). And despite the selection being "cleared" after 5 seconds the text remains in the clipboard.

not weekathon material.

Closing old RFEs, please reopen if still needed.
Patches are always welcomed.
