I get this when doing a hard drive installation. The installer crashes whether I do an upgrade from 6.2 or a new intsall. It crashes whether or not I have vfat partitions listed in /etc/fstab. I have downloaded and implemented the installer fix posted on 10/9: update-disk-20001009.img. The resulting anacdump.txt (below) looks very similar to the bug the update was intended to fix, but has item MAKEDEV. this seems to be a dup of bug 18242
This is almost certainly due to a corrupted download of the install image to a hard drive. The update was not supposed to fix this problem (it can't) but in some cases it would report the error earlier. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 18019 ***
