Description Krist van Besien 2020-10-30 13:04:38 UTC
Document URL:
https://docs.openshift.com/container-platform/4.6/installing/installing_rhv/installing-rhv-default.html#installing-rhv-verifying-the-rhv-environment_installing-rhv-default

Section Number and Name:

- Preparing the network environment on RHV
- Deploying the cluster

Describe the issue:

The user is asked to reserve an IP for the internal DNS, and instructed to enter it as answer to one of the questions the installer will present.

However the installer never asks for this DNS ip.

Suggestions for improvement:

Remove this part from the docs so that it is in line with what happens during an install.

Comment 1 Steve Goodman 2021-02-23 15:55:57 UTC
If I understand correctly, the request is:
 - entirely remove the topic "Preparing the network environment on RHV"
 - in "Deploying the cluster" remove step L, which says "For Internal DNS Virtual IP, enter the static IP address you set aside for the cluster’s internal DNS service."

Is that correct?

Krist, are you saying that it is necessary neither to reserve any IP addresses, nor to create DNS entries for the OpenShift Container Platform REST API and apps domain names?

due to capacity constraints we will be revisiting this bug in the upcoming sprint

Comment 5 Krist van Besien 2021-04-28 13:48:50 UTC
My comment is just about this one item in the docs, where the user is asked to reserve an IP address that is later never asked for. So the "reserve an IP address" step is superflous.

Krist, please see PR at:

Also, are you able to address comment 7?

Comment 20 Michael Burman 2021-05-06 06:27:47 UTC
Verified

Both the IPI quick install and IPI with customization documentations changed now to:

Preparing the network environment on RHV section -

"Configure two static IP addresses for the OpenShift Container Platform cluster and create DNS entries using these addresses."

"Reserve two static IP addresses"

"On the network where you plan to install OpenShift Container Platform, identify two static IP addresses that are outside the DHCP lease pool."

The line:
"The third static IP address does not require a DNS entry. The OpenShift Container Platform cluster uses that address for its internal DNS service."
was removed

Deploying the cluster section -

"For Internal DNS Virtual IP, enter the static IP address you set aside for the cluster’s internal DNS service."
was removed
