tested using the fisher public beta:

when running a GUI mode install, serial mice are not properly detected and
are not usable; the install can only proceed via the keyboard

Perhaps this is the reproduction of bug 23264 that msf was looking for? :)  This
actually might be due to the phantom PS/2 mouse problem as it was called in
2.2.18-pre since I think I've seen a couple of reports that it's present in
2.4ac also
