Created attachment 366141 [details] Shot of menu bar Description of problem: Misdrawing of things, particuarly if the system is busy when the draw occurs, quite often some in the bottom few pixels of the menu bar, and on windows while first loading. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.13.0-0.7.20091006git457646d73.fc12.x86_64 How reproducible: Fairly common, some instance more simple to reproduce than others, seems more common with nomodeset param (needed at the moment due to bug 525904 which looks as tho it won't have a solution before F12) Steps to Reproduce: General use of the gui seems to produce this kind of corruption, tho specific things like using a mouse wheel to scroll a window which is behind another seems to cause it fairly reproducably in some cases, and just opeing abiword seems to cause some problems Actual results: Corruption, see atached shots. Expected results: no coruption. Additional info:
Created attachment 366142 [details] shot of abiword corruption and firefox corruption Firefox coruption has been specificaly reported as bug 522985, tho that seems much more specific than the more general coruption I'm seeing in these cases.

Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates in various components of the Xorg system, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their packages (at least F12Beta, but even better if the very latest versions). Please, if you experience this problem on the up-to-date system, let us now in the comment for this bug, or whether the upgraded system works for you. If you won't be able to reply in one month, I will have to close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Thank you. [This is a bulk message for all open Fedora Rawhide Xorg-related bugs. I'm adding myself to the CC list for each bug, so I'll see any comments you make after this and do my best to make sure every issue gets proper attention.]
*** Bug 532810 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle. Changing version to '12'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Robert do you still see this issue with lastest fedora 12 bits ? If so please gives the output of this 2 commands : rpm -q kernel xorg-x11-drv-ati xorg-x11-server-Xorg uname -a
I see these or very similar problems with Fedora 12 (final + all current stable updates). For me this happens mostly when scrolling or moving windows against screen. My card: [ondrejj@work ~]$ lspci | grep RV 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] [ondrejj@work ~]$ rpm -q kernel-PAE xorg-x11-server-Xorg xorg-x11-drv-ati xorg-x11-drv-radeonhd kernel-PAE-2.6.30.9-96.fc11.i686 kernel-PAE-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.1-7.fc12.i686 xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.13.0-0.10.20091006git457646d73.fc12.i686 xorg-x11-drv-radeonhd-1.3.0-3.15.20091112git.fc12.i686 [ondrejj@work ~]$ uname -a Linux work.salstar.sk 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Sat Nov 7 21:25:57 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux [ondrejj@work ~]$ Should I update something to koji version to test if it's better?
Still problem with: xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.13.0-0.12.20091119git437113124.fc12.i686 (I don't know, if something from this is used from radeonhd driver). Btw, I use mostly only 2D, some 3D programs works with F12 too, but compiz/beryl crashes Xorg server. I have to use nomodeset kernel parameter, because without this parameter there is only black screen (monitor is turned off) when Xorg starts. Unable to successfully switch to text mode.
Most of the original corruption problems I experienced seem to have been resolved (I’ve done a fresh install from the 12 live cd) there are two remaining issues, first the firefox corruption is still present, but that is an xserver problem currently being tracked with bug 522763 as the point of contact. The second seems to be more performance than strictly speaking corruption, dragging windows leaves quite obvious after images over certain elements, particularly window decoration (title bars and resize boarders) it's unsightly, but not the same as the permanent corruption that this bug was originally about. Jan, can you attach some screenshots of the corruption you're still seeing?
Created attachment 373381 [details] Broken desktop window. OK, here it is. I mostly use only a terminal (rxterm), browser (galeon based on gecko) and VLC. Then problems are only with galeon. But sometimes I use virt-manager, which uses VNC to display some things and when moving this window, sometimes it's wrongly filled.
I'm experiencing the same problem with various programs using KDE as my desktop environment. It often happens when I scroll in a browser. I've tried both Firefox and Opera. I cannot reproduce it accurately, but when it happens, switching between two random windows will make the corruption go away. [niek@work ~]$ lspci | grep ATI 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3450 [niek@pc-niek ~]$ rpm -q kernel xorg-x11-drv-ati xorg-x11-server-Xorg kernel-2.6.31.6-145.fc12.x86_64 kernel-2.6.31.6-162.fc12.x86_64 kernel-2.6.31.6-166.fc12.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.13.0-0.11.20091119git437113124.fc12.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.1-7.fc12.x86_64 [niek@pc-niek ~]$ uname -a Linux pc-niek.sbs.local 2.6.31.6-166.fc12.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Dec 9 10:46:22 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux [niek@pc-niek ~]$ glxinfo|grep renderer OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV620 95C5) 20090101 TCL No proprietary drivers are being used.
Created attachment 380183 [details] The corruption problem I experience when scrolling in browsers. In this case Opera is being used.
I am also seeing glitches in the radeon driver in Fedora 13 for my HD 4570. I have tried: -compiz or metacity for window managers -with and without mesa-dri-drivers-experimental installed. The tendency is for white bars in pairs around the desktop and window decorations and for certain letters of certain fonts to show a thick black vertical bar. The placement of these distortions is different for each X session but will remain until the session terminates. Changing window managers or refreshing screen does not fix any of the corruptions. Here is a screenshot which capture both the white ad black bars: http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/3399/screenshotbrt.png
All the display corruptions I had are fixed in the koji kernel http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=182791 which is marked for dist-f13-updates-candidate.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '12'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
