Is this consistently reproducible?  I've got a theory about how this happens as
well as a testbuild which avoids the situation which might be causing this
problem.

If it's reproducible and you can test the RPMS, let me know and I'll pass along
a pointer.

I tried several times to reproduce and have been unable to get the crash to return.
