Could be fwupd poking the hardware in a wrong way

Comment 2 Richard Hughes 2016-01-08 09:34:44 UTC
Can you try setting EnableOptionROM=false in /etc/fwupd.conf and rebooting please.

I had the same issue and not sure what EnableOptionROM=false in /etc/fwupd.conf did as I am not a developer but this suggestion fixed the issue for me.

Comment 5 Will Cooke 2016-05-23 09:52:31 UTC
A few people have tried setting the EnableOptionROM=false and rebooting in Ubuntu (bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1578317) and reports are that it didn't help.

Comment 6 Oleg Drokin 2016-05-28 02:10:42 UTC
Iwonder if the root cause here is fwupd hogging file descriptor to the usb device via usbfs and thus interfering with the driver operations (bug 1340587)?
Possibly just stopping fwupd (killall fwupd) might be all that's needed here?

Comment 7 Asif Ali Rizvan 2016-06-03 22:27:36 UTC
EnableOptionROM=false in /etc/fwupd.conf does not do anything on fedora 23, and fedora 24.

Also in fedora 24 workstation, as soon as I login, gnome-software starts as a service, which hangs the mouse. I had to remove gnome-software to use the mouse for work in fedora 24.

Also in ubuntu 16.04 64bit, starting gnome-software hangs the mouse.

Comment 9 Noel Duffy 2016-07-11 08:33:25 UTC
On my Fedora 24 box, I had to uninstall the gnome-software package to prevent it from starting. Removing the desktop file from /etc/xdg/autostart didn't do it. Somehow it was still getting started each time I logged in.

The problem has not re-appeared since uninstalling gnome-software.

Comment 10 Fedora End Of Life 2016-11-24 13:03:35 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '23'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 11 Fedora End Of Life 2016-12-20 15:21:00 UTC
Fedora 23 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-12-20. Fedora 23 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
