I'm building a 1525 kernel right now, with some fixes to emu10k1 from 2.6.14rc. Please give this a test when it appears at http://people.redhat.com/davej/kernels/Fedora/FC4/
with this one sound works, but the 'Master' mixer has no effect (cannot controll volume and mute the sound)
the wave-* mixer does effekt the volume (I am using 5.1 sound)
fixed this by playing with the mixer settings in alsamixer
Got some ugly sound problems with 2.6.13-1.1524_FC4 too, but on an Intel 8x0 chipset. Sound output is garbled and strange, might be a similar problem. No problem with the 2.6.12 from FC4-base/updates and also no problem with recent 2.6.13 and 2.6.14-rcX from rawhide. I will check this with 2.6.13-1.1525_FC4 now, and try to track it down. I will open a seperate bugzilla entry if it is not related to this problem.
The following are experiences with Intel 810 sound, and are most likely not related to this bug! Well, I will add some unqualified and random notes. 2.6.13-1.152[45]_FC4 behaves a bit "strange" on the sounddevice, which were not there in any of the previous or rawhide kernels. With I 2.6.13-1.152[45]_FC4 I had "garbled sound" (sound playing slowly or having a lot of noice when playing with alsa), playing fine when using OSS-output, and having no sound at all with both Alsa and OSS output. Playing with alsamixer sometimes only brought a lot of white noise but not fixing the problem. I know this all is not very helpful, but difficult to reproduce here. After recreating /etc/alsa/pcm/(dmix|dsnoop).conf from alsa-lib, removing /etc/asound.state, unloading all alsa modules and starting from the scratch everything works fine now. This all might or might not related to this specific kernel, I cannot say. Since the topic here is about the emu10k1, and no longer an issue for me, please do not put too much weight into my bugreport.
Please, file a separate bug report for issues unrelated to emu10k1.
I am unable to get any sound with any of the 2.6.13 fedora rawhide kernels. I've tried the 1525 kernel above without success. My sound stopped working when I moved from FC4 to rawhide. From User-Agent: XML-RPC kernel-2.6.13-1.1526_FC4 has been pushed for FC4, which should resolve this issue. If these problems are still present in this version, then please make note of it in this bug report.

If these problems are still present in this version, then please make note of it in this bug report. I'd like to reopen the bug although I'm not the reporter. After updating to the current kernel-2.6.13-1.1526_FC4 I've lost sound on my machine (i386, K7S5A Board, Soundblaster Live!). Both alsamixer and gnome-volume-control have lost most of their sliders, only front right, front left and left rear are left when I boot the new kernel, no master, no line in, no whatever. system-config-soundcard is unable to play the test sound. The old kernels work fine, I never had problems before with this soundcard, this is the first time _ever_. 00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 735 Host (rev 01) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Virtual PCI-to-PCI bridge (AGP) 00:02.0 ISA bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS85C503/5513 (LPC Bridge) 00:02.1 SMBus: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS961/2 SMBus Controller 00:02.2 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 07) 00:02.3 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 07) 00:02.5 IDE interface: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5513 [IDE] (rev d0) 00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Sound Controller (rev a0) 00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. SB Live 5.1 Gamer, front speakers not working on mine since installing the x.x.13.x kernel on FC4. Using 4.1 speakers, analog, dual cable setup. I installed 2.6.13-1.1526_FC4 yesterday. Sound worked fine on the prior 3-4 or so kernel releases. The only sound option that remained on the Playback tab of Volume Control was a 3 bar EMU10K1 PCM controller, which I have never seen before. I added Wave Surround in to get the rear speakers working. There is no longer an option for Master and if I check on Wave, etc., it wont add it to the sound panel. Plain PCM option is also missing. Reopened because it seems still to be broken for many users.

Works for me, too, with 1527 test kernel (was broken in kernel-2.6.13-1.1526_FC4). Master volume control is now visible again in alsamixer. Thanks!
Works with 2.6.13-1.1528_FC4.
This also occurs with the Creative Labs SB Audigy LS using the ca0106 module in the kernel-2.6.13-1.152[678]_FC4.
Still broken with 2.6.13-1.1528_FC4. /dev/dsp is not being created on bootup, all the mixer stuff shows up in alsamixer now though. 00:0a.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! Same here: no sound with 1526 and 1528, FC4 fully updated.
I'd like to point out that once i updated from 1526 to 1528 i still couldn't get any sound. Fortunately, i checked the alsamixer settings and found out that the upgrade had muted PCM and Master. Once i corrected those, sound worked fine.

PCM and Master are present and I can move them normally. Just no sound... L.
I tried the latest kernel under http://people.redhat.com/davej/kernels/Fedora/FC4/ (kernel-2.6.13-1.1531_FC4.x86_64.rpm to be precise) and I still have no sound. I didn't find this bug early enough to try the 1528 build. I've checked my mixer settings and nothing is muted.

Found out my problem (after upgrading to 1532). The upgrade hadn't muted anything, but for some reason had turned off the output jack. Found it in alsamixer - "Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack" - turning it on has fixed my sound problem.
Now it works for me on kernel 1532.
kernel 1532 fixed it here to, but sound recording is still not working as it should, but this has never worked with any FC4 kernel. I hoped this kernel release would fix this also.
Thanks a lot, it works again. Great! However, I still have to zero "Wave Center" and "Wave LFE", otherwise the "PCM" volume doesn't do much useful, but that seems to be a general Alsa issue and can be easily worked around. Thanks again to make sound playback work! (Cannot say much about recording, don't have a microphone to test it.)
The ALSA drivers have so many quirks (enable slider x to make slider y work etc) that it's almost impossible to keep track of them all. If things don't "just work" I suggest bringing it up upstream in their bug tracker at http://www.alsa-project.org
