Started system. SELINUX showed message indicating it could not read policy file. No other errors were displayed.
Desktop started, but no panel appeared.
Did CTRL-ALT-F2, logged, and did a "ps -A | grep gnome-panel", followed by a "kill -ABRT <pid>" ofr the process found by the grep, producing this bug report.
See also bugs 619272 and 620295.

Did CTRL-ALT-F2, logged in, and made copies of dmesg and .xsession-errors for posting. Then, as before, I did a "ps -A | grep gnome-panel", followed by a "kill -ABRT <pid>" ofr the process found by the grep, producing this bug report.

contents of dmesg

Did not see any SELINUX errors in attached dmesg.

Comment 5 Peter H. Jones 2010-08-05 10:56:10 UTC
Attachment 436803 [details] and attachment 463807 [details] belong with a backtrace taken on August 5th, not 4th, which I don't see in this but report.

Comment 6 Peter H. Jones 2010-08-05 11:33:34 UTC
Also noticed Weather applet seemed to have null preferences, but Investment app was OK. When I logged out and in again, the Weather app worked OK.

No SELINUX message this time.
When I did the ps command, I really entered "ps -Afl | grep | gnome-panel" to get the pid of the non-appearing panel.

Not sure; didn't see the crash. May have been on logout.

Comment 28 Adam Williamson 2010-09-13 22:26:48 UTC
I hit this one running validation tests on TC1 (see above), which makes it a final blocker:

"In most cases, there must be no SELinux 'AVC: denied' messages or abrt crash notifications on initial boot and subsequent login (see Blocker_Bug_FAQ) "

This quick and dirty shell script, placed on the Desktop, can be run. It's far less cumbersome than the procedure in comment 12.
