This was done while installing the plugins from rpmfusion.org (some gstreamer plugins). I think it was in the last part of the installation.

Comment 15 Mike McLean 2010-11-11 22:11:28 UTC
Possibly a red herring, but I note that all gstreamer apps seem unable to seek mp3s. I've observed this on rhythmbox, totem, and Miro. I've also seen similar segfaults with mp3 playback in these other apps.

Comment 19 Mike McLean 2010-11-12 15:57:51 UTC
Workaround: remove gstreamer-ffmpeg and use gstreamer-plugins-ugly instead.

Comment 20 Mark Patton 2010-11-12 16:01:55 UTC
Installing gstreamer-plugins-ugly without removing gstreamer-ffmpeg worked for me.

Comment 21 Mike McLean 2010-11-12 16:53:51 UTC
Yep, looks like streamer prefers the ugly plugin over the ffmpeg one. Keeping both works for me to.

Oddly, this doesn't fix the inability to seek during mp3 playback in rhymthbox, though it does fix the same issue in totem and Miro. I'm not sure what's up with that.

Comment 22 Mark Patton 2010-11-12 18:30:29 UTC
I'm able to seek in mp3s with rhythmbox and totem as well.

Nothing special, Rhythmbox didn't crash right away, the window showed up, I saw the progress bar scanning media folders, then it crashed.

As mentioned in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=657971#c17
this is most probably a bug in ffmpeg which is provided by rpmfusion. and which
is solved by installing gstreamer-plugins-ugly
