sudo tail -400 /var/log/messages

Also on the most recent kernel
Linux hippie 3.2.6-3.fc16.i686.PAE #1 SMP Mon Feb 13 20:44:23 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

I'm running autofs with a direct map on /

$ cat /etc/auto/direct
/vault	-defaults,vers=3,rw	server1:/vault
/work	-defaults,vers=3,rw	server2:/work
/srv	-defaults,vers=3,rw	server3:/srv

These faults occur when the network interface bounce under the control of NetworkManager.

The scene here was
a) cleaning up the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files to comply with the new NetworkManager that doesn't do aliases (the same way)
b) ifup wlan0

The machine is otherwise happy enough. nfs is running, automount does it's job.

Comment 7 Dave Jones 2012-03-20 15:21:08 UTC
the latest kernel update in testing has some extra debug patch to print out the mountpoint where the file lives, which might aid in debugging.

Comment 8 Dave Jones 2012-03-21 15:38:46 UTC

Comment 9 Wendell Baker 2012-03-31 23:04:06 UTC
Same nfs scheme as in Comment 6, different host, slightly different hardware.

establishing a new version of ifcfg-em2 and route-em2 as (the moral equivalent of)
sudo cp $pwd/{ifcfg,route}-em2 /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/.

This caused NetworkManager to bounce the interface and reestablish routes on it. FWIW, em2 is the WAN side with static IPv4 assignment and IPV6INIT=no per the guidance of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=753482

on deepened ... the newer kernel.

After the incident, autofs was wedged (wouldn't mount anything).

    sudo systemctl restart autofs.service

returned autofs to service. The machine didn't have to be rebooted after stability.

This seems to be fixed in 3.4 judging by the lack of new reports.

The system is in a weird state; autofs has gone and made some strange directory:
 dr-xr-xr-x. 2 root root 0 Aug 30 19:31 /home/tibbs
that I can't access:
ls: cannot open directory /home/tibbs: Too many levels of symbolic links
autofs isn't even running at this point.

In trying to make that directory go away (unmounting it, unmounting /home) I'm getting the above kernel spew.

# Mass update to all open bugs.

Kernel 3.6.2-1.fc16 has just been pushed to updates.
This update is a significant rebase from the previous version.

Please retest with this kernel, and let us know if your problem has been fixed.

In the event that you have upgraded to a newer release and the bug you reported
is still present, please change the version field to the newest release you have
encountered the issue with. Before doing so, please ensure you are testing the
latest kernel update in that release and attach any new and relevant information
you may have gathered.

If you are not the original bug reporter and you still experience this bug,
please file a new report, as it is possible that you may be seeing a
different problem.
(Please don't clone this bug, a fresh bug referencing this bug in the comment is sufficient).

Comment 14 Justin M. Forbes 2012-11-14 20:37:58 UTC
With no response, we are closing this bug under the assumption that it is no longer an issue. If you still experience this bug, please feel free to reopen the bug report.
