Description of problem: msgid "" "Redeeming the subscription may take a few minutes.\n" "Please provide an email address to receive notification\n" "when the redemption is complete." This message id continues to create a lot of problems for the translators and ultimately a GUI dialog that may be too wide for the display (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=665062) Prior bugs opened for this issue include: bug 908108 bug 888010 bug 887995 bug 887989 bug 887966 bug 887957 Here's what I suggest... bust this msgid into two and then you can programmatically join then with a hard coded "\n" that does not require translation. Expected: msgid "Redeeming the subscription may take a few minutes." msgid "Please provide an email address to receive notification when the redemption is complete." Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): [root@jsefler-7 ~]# rpm -q subscription-manager subscription-manager-1.8.4-1.git.70.ff4c9ab.el7.x86_64
Consider the same fix for this troublesome msgid. Bust it into two strings. Actual: msgid "" "We have detected that you have multiple service levels on various products.\n" "Please select how you want them assigned." Expected: msgid "We have detected that you have multiple service levels on various products." msgid "Please select how you want them assigned." Even better would be changing this confusing message to the following: msgid "Multiple subscription service level choices are available." msgid "Choose a common service level for coverage of your installed products." mreid, do you agree that these msgids are an improvement?
Here's another troublesome msgstr... msgid "" "\n" "Attempting to register system to Red Hat Subscription Management..." Fix this by programatically preprending an untranslated "\n" to msgid "Attempting to register system to Red Hat Subscription Management..."
And another... msgid "" "\n" "Retrieving existing RHN Classic subscription information..." Fix this by programatically preprending an untranslated "\n" to msgid "Retrieving existing RHN Classic subscription information..."

John, what do you think of: msgid "Multiple service levels are available to cover your installed products." msgid "Select a service level to use when attaching subscriptions for all of your installed products." It's a little bit wordier, but I think it helps add some clarity.
Created attachment 736095 [details] here's the dialog with the msgid(s) in question (In reply to comment #6) > John, what do you think of: > msgid "Multiple service levels are available to cover your installed products." > msgid "Select a service level to use when attaching subscriptions for all of your installed products." > > It's a little bit wordier, but I think it helps add some clarity. I am not fond of the word "when" in the msgid since the user is being prompted to make a choice "now" as shown in the attached screenshot. I personally like these msgids better... msgid "For coverage of the detected products, multiple service levels available." msgid "Choose the subscription service level you need." It's best to view the attached screenshot to understand the context of these msgids.
Created attachment 749065 [details] mockup with new wording Thanks for including the screenshot, I had forgotten about the other string at the bottom. I think we could strip out the second sentence in the top area, and tweak the other strings to simplify it. What are your thoughts on: 1st msgid:"Your installed products could be covered using one of multiple service levels." no 2nd msgid Change current msgid of "Detected products:" to say "Installed Products:", that list should just match whatever product certs they have, and matches everything listed in My Installed Products, probably makes more sense to not introduce 'detected products' as a concept. Change the string at the bottom from 'Attach subscriptions with service level:' to 'Select a common service level for this system's subscriptions:'. How does that sound to you? You can see what it might look like in the attached image.
(In reply to Matt Reid from comment #8) > How does that sound to you? You can see what it might look like in the > attached image. All the changes in comment 8 are good and address the earlier concern about translating long sentences with embedded \n.
looks like fixes were made in https://github.com/candlepin/subscription-manager/commit/3c70c6cf Moving back to NEW. Strings need to be extracted to translation files.
